What do your corns do to live up to their names?

Ariadne was named after a figure in Greek mythology. She helped the hero Theseus defeat the Minotaur by giving him a ball of red string that she was weaving, which he used to navigate through the labyrinth that contained the Minotaur.

When I was bringing the little snake home as a hatchling it occurred to me that she looked just like a piece of red thread, so I decided that Ariadne should be her name.

Spitfire/Spitz- a fairly easy-to-realize name, but he's growing out of it now. Maybe I'll rename him sometime? I think I will.... When I got him he was the twitchiest little thing, but now he's pretty calm. He only gets excited at dinner time, now.

Ariston/Aris- Means "the best", which fits him perfectly. An extremely laid back snake, who eats every time, and has never had a bad shed. I've never been tail rattled at, struck at, or pooped upon yet :) Love him to bits.

Vanay (actually Vane) got her name from my conlang (constructed language, like klingon or sindarin) and it is an exclamation of surprise. Basically "Oh!" And man has she lived up to that name with her massive color change.

Just because you said this, he is going to poop on you now. Its that snakey sixth sense.

You see, the thing I love about him is that I can see when he's going to poop, the upside of being an amel (; If he's gotta go, I leave him alone. :D

Hmm.. I cant tell on my Amel when she is going to go. Well I can, because she sits still and then looks up at me as if to say "HAHA jokes on you!" then she goes.:awcrap:

His skin'll probably get darker as he gets older, and I won't be able to tell, but for now I love it ;D
They WILL get me someday, though. Not looking forward to it, really.

Most of my snakes are named "Snake" (maybe I should work on that).

But i DO have a butter named, you guessed it, "Butters". Fits him perfectly as he is our dorky snake. We laugh at him all the time, in fact, he isn't in any breeding plans for the next couple of years and we (at least once a night) walk by him and laugh at 'the poor boy who isnt going to get any'. He also is the ONLY one that has had problems with his shed. He is DEFINITELY a Butters.

That only makes sense if you've read the books!

What conlang do you speak? Or is it your very own?

Orion is Orion!

His color pattern sort of "changes" halfway down. In his midsection he has two connecting red splotches that look like a belt. Orion's belt.

Spitfire's new name is Raek (pronounced Rake), with Rae (Ray) for short. :) It's a character in a story I'm working on, and he actually inspired the character, so I think it should fit well x3

The name Damien is associated with the Devil thanks to Hollywood. But if you ever tell someone with a child named Damien, that that is what it means, they get very defensive and angry. Not that I'm surprised but I guess my Damien is a snake, so the Devil connection works. He doesn't act devilish at all though. He is still very young ('09 hatchling I think) and he is very calm and very well behaved. I'm lucky to have him as a first snake. I guess the only thing that he's done that would fit this definition was disappear for just over a month. He is back and safe now, and I've made a few adjustments to his viv so he cannot escape again.

The "true meaning" of Damien is to tame or to subdue... which I guess fits him a lot better since he is very tame/subdued for a baby. Although I've heard of people with the opposite problem, very their snake starts quiet and gets feisty as it ages.

I haven't named my cornsnakes yet as I have only had them a little over 24 hours (Love them to bits alreay, tho).
My python is Winter because when she was shipped to me, the weather was cool, but acceptable. Sometime during the night we ended up with a freakish winter storm. The FedEx truck pulled into the driveway and it was snowing. Since Winter is also shades of silver/grey, it seemed to fit.
(BTW Winter is a dwarf retic - Jampea.)

Oh, and my Dumeril's Boa is Cyanide so I can (subtly) make fun of people when they ask me if he's poisonous. *roll eyes* My usual answer to the poisonous question is: No, I could safely eat him anytime I want, he's not venomous, either. lol

We named our first little guy Russ. Russ is the short form of Russell which means "little red one." He's a pretty little classic with lots of red, so the name suits him. Our newest little one is a ghost who we named Dex. No reason, just thought it was cute.

:laugh01::rofl::laugh01: That comment made me literally laugh out loud!

Mine are named with great deliberation.....

For example:
Artephius, my bronze-gold-pewter-silver diffuse caramel, who's named for an ancient alchemist.
Zipporah, anery motley, named after Moses' wife because of her asclepius head marking.
Puck, a caramel motley named for his puckish personality.
Tulip, amel stripe named for her head marking.
Dazzler, a keeper baby from Tulip named after a variety of tulip.
Boz, snow het motley/het stripe who has Charles Dickens's pen name because he's cool like that.

And then there's Yohsong, my first corn. He's not at all like his name, which is a phonetic English spelling of the name that was chosen for him. It's Korean, and was supposed to be the Korean word for "pretty." I was sadly misinformed, and named him "evil working Buddhist priest" by mistake. :shrugs::D

I named our anery Nimue after the lady of the lake from the King Arthur tales. She likes to hide under her water dish and jump out at you when you try to change out the water. I really hope she's a girl.

I love that name, as well as the story behind it.
