What does your biggest/adult corn eat?

They are between 12 and 15 years old and Anery and amel.

I kinda been working on a anery line that Doesnt have any yellow :) And this girl here is one of the first I ever had. She is so totally sweet but 3 pounds of snake is still a lot of muscle to deal with lol

I am gonna have to take some pics because its hard for some to think of that long/heavy corn isnt a fatty. The anery "misty" is finally down on weight abit. She was very heavy at over 1500 grams. She didnt look fat but she didnt move like she used to so I started playing with her more and went to feeding every 14 days and now she is moving more like I think she should at about 1200 grams. :)

I would loooooooove to see photos! :)

I keep a small variety of food here for my snakes, I usually feed adult mice but I like to switch it up with rat pups and small chicks about once every 3 feedings. My adults are fed every two weeks so are at a pretty good weight. My largest is only around 450g.

It's ok to switch up the food source every once and a while then?

I havent had any issues with my corns refusing mice after eating rats or chicks. My spotted python will only eat rats though. My bairds could care less what I feed her. I think its good to switch it up once in a while. Different food have different nutrients so it certainly doesnt hurt.

Yes very true!

I totally agree with ratsncorns. That is why I said mine get what ever I happen to pull out of the freezer :) Altho I never fed chicks but I am Sure that even if the corns refused, that the kings and pines wouldnt! lol They are willing to try anything... includeing me!

I'm feeding rat pups to my adults. As soon as I go through this pack Im gona start feeding weaned rats. Im feeding once a weak with these rat pups and it dosen't leave much of a bulge. When I step up to weaned rats I still will feed them weekly I think.

Weekly rat weans? You know this, but keep an eye on their weight!

I agree with the others. Rats have a higher fat content than mice so I would bump them to two weeks once you feed rat weans. I have found that different companies label the rats different. I order rat pups from Big Cheese but their rat pups are like rat weans from rodentpro. 30g+. If I feed them rats that large, I usually wait 3 weeks before feeding again. The vet I take my snakes to always compliments me on their overall health and slimness. He sees a lot of fat snakes, apparently.

I feed my older snake 1 large adult mouse, or 2 medium mice (whatever is in stock) every 14 days. It never leaves a bulge, maybe a slight one for less then 12 hrs. Now if I ever was to throw a weaned rat as a treat once in a great while, is it ok if I wait 21 days until next feeding because I'm sure it will leave a large enough lump?

It's "okay" to feed oversized meals and wait a long time, but I don't know if they find it a treat compared to feeding a smaller item ever 7-10 days.

Some snakes do have a preference, I've seen this. There's no way to know for sure about enjoying variety, but there aren't many human attributes that are applicable to a corn snake. I bet if you placed a mouse and a rat down in the same enclosure, most would eat the one they "found" first. Others have a preference and would eat their preferred rodent every time. Unless they were really hungry and found the other one first.

Or who knows, maybe they are thinking to themselves "Mice again? I bet I'd like chicken!" But mine seem pretty happy to get mice! :)
