What is she doing!?!?

One of my snow females will NOT settle down. Every minute of every day, for the past two weeks, she has been up and down, all over her vivarium, climbing around the rim up top, digging in the aspen knocking a whole bunch of aspen in the water which is frustrating since I know need to clean it every day, in and out of her hide, and back to climbing! She has already laid a clutch of eggs, and I don't think she is gravid with a second clutch because I palpated her two weeks after she laid her first clutch and no eggs. She also has gone off feeding for about three weeks. I wonder what she is looking for? Does she want to breed again with the male? Are the eggs in her that I can't feel? What should I do? Should I put the lay box back in a wait? Help! :uhoh:

Sounds like she wants to double on you. I would put in a box, even if there is no second clutch, the box may give her the comfort she seeks and help her calm down.

I gave her the box a little earlier and she went in it right away, but I just checked on her and she is still wandering her vivarium, going in and out of the box, then climbing the top of the tank, etc. I palpated her again and I can't feel any eggs, but she is giving me signs that lead me to think she is going to double clutch (Not eating, restlessly looking for something, drinking lots of water...).

She could be double-clutching or she may just be ovulating, leading her to behave as though she's about to lay. I have one that goes through laying behaviour every year but never produces eggs.

Just leave her in peace with the laying box. They don't always settle into it immediately - sometimes it takes a few days for them to get the hang of it (even when they've used it before). Either way, you should know in the next couple of weeks.

In my experience, when they are close to laying and the eggs are too small to really bulge, it is hard to feel them by palpating also, perhaps because of the fact that their muscles are relaxing by then to prepare for laying. Is the lower half of her body triangular shaped a bit with protruding spine? That's sure sign she is going to lay soon.

I wonder why you think that 2 weeks after laying one should feel eggs if a female is going to double clutch? Double clutching takes about 2 months after laying in my experience. 2 weeks after I would not expect to feel eggs yet.

I only felt two weeks later out of curiosity :p I know they lay about two months later, my other two females always double-clutch, and they produce huge eggs, so I can feel them about two weeks after they laid their first clutch, which is why I was curious about my snow girl so I palpated her and felt nothing.

She is in her lay box at the moment, her bottom half seems to be somewhat triangular, but it could also just be my imagination :shrugs:
When I tried feeding her yesterday evening, she was in her laybox, and when I touched her, she immediatly pushed my fingers with her body, something my other females do when they have eggs, so Im guessing this is a sure sign she is ovulating/double-clutching? She shed about a week ago, so if she does double-clutch it should be quite soon. I'll keep you guys posted.

YAY! Turns out, she was double clutching on me! I came home yesterday from my friends house and their lay 15 eggs! 4 or 5 slugs, a few iffy and some good. Pictures coming today! Youpi! :D

ALL my females double clutch, and this isn't my first time breeding, its just my first time breeding this snake so Im used to it anyways. She is doing great, Im feeding her tomorrow, so two days rest. She's been drinking lots of water, and then just resting. She is real skinny, but they fatten up very fast, so she'll be okay. Pictures coming tomorrow during feeding. I decided photos would be more interresting to look at and you will get to see her body.

No no, I didn't get offended :p Just explaining that I knew how to handle it. She ate today, gulped it down in less than 1 minute, and I am not exagerating! Its the fastest I've ever seen a corn snake eat a mouse. And it was a regular sized mouse, like all my adults eat.. Im feeding her again Saturday(I feed all my snakes saturdays) so I will see how she eats it next time.

Pictures! :)

Here are some pictures of her eatng two days after laying and a picture of her 2nd clutch.
