WHAT THE ?!?!?!?!

An obsolete oldie...
I hatched a crazy weird one that makes my heart flutter. I know chances are HUGE that this one will just look special, and not be a genetic morph, but man it is making me so excited once again, about breeding corns!

This one showed up out of a female okeetee which was purchased as an adult breeder from Kathy Love by my friend Lu. The male I purchased early in my "corn career" from someone who was selling me a couple mediocre sunglow motleys and sent a male zigzag okeetee as a filler for a low cost animal for me to re-sell.

Well, I fell in love with the male and couldn't sell him. Fast forward to this spring. I bred the two snakes together, they had a decent first clutch, which of course hatched all Okeetees. Not amazing quality, but nice enough.

Well the female ended up becoming sporadic on feeding, also ending up with a strange lump on her back which suddenly started growing and changing <keep in mind this girl we suspect is now a good 8 or 9 years old> I wanted to observe the lump for a few days, and during this time she double clutched with 15 eggs. Only three looked good, not surprising due to the fact she was not re-introduced.

After the double she really started looking crappy so we've been back and forth too two different vets, had x-rays, fine needle aspirates and have tried different approaches to hope for recovery. To no evail.. I feel in my heart her days are numbered...

Well, two of the three eggs went bad, and the third hatched. What is it?!? I HAVE NO FRICKIN' IDEA!!!! The thing looks like a sunkissed lavender but not? the colour is very similar to the lavenders I've hatched, but almost has a hint of colour, kinda ghosty okeetee? The sunkissed thing isn't really there, there's just a different head pattern and a few freckles. The eyes are pretty darn clear so I don't suspect all of the strangeness in colour to be chalked up to being "in blue". I'lll surely wait with baited breath for that post hatch shed.

Shame it is a male... It's going to take me that much longer to see if this is genetic at all :( Yay though, for the fact this thing is huge, and very agressive!!! Bodes well for his eating later in time!

See what you think?!?!?! :)

Wow, he is beautiful, Rebecca... Love his suddle shapes.. :)

Let me know what you find out in few years what morph he is... and hope his mother makes it through...

Wow!

Sure is a beauty! Being a male wouldn't that make breeding it out easier? On my moniter (could be our settings) we think it looks sort of ghostish. But it looks like it's got some pink hues to it...so maybe lavender somewhere? No idea, but gorgeous all the same.:p

WOW! Great mystery! Definitely some type of hypo effect going on. The nose is short like a Sunkissed and a small part of the head pattern says Sunkissed also, but the saddles don't have that blocky appearance. The color doesn't look like a typical ghost's but is very much like a hatchling dilute anery with that blueish hue. I haven't seen enough ultra/ultramel anerys to compare it with those. Guess you'll have to test the parents until this one grows up enough to start testing it out as well.

Im sure she's not for sale..but why is it that the only two hatchlings that I would consider buying are OVERSEAS! Darn! LOL

Im trying to be VERY selective with my second snake beacuse I know the hubby will only allow one more. I was trying to hold off for a ghost blood but this one looks very similar (to my newbie eyes anyway)...

He is beautiful!! Congrats!

I have a question- what color was the female from Kathy?? Cool baby- I love his little pink cheeks!

Shame it is a male? That is what I would WANT it to be. You can breed that male to quite a few females and rule out the different genes MUCH faster then if it was a female. First pic looked sunkissed to me but the rest of them look like a light colored snake in shed.

Last I checked Canada was north of the US. :sidestep:

Mother and father were both okeetees! The female that was from Kathy was from a wild caught bred to another of her snakes. I'll have to ask Lu what her registration number is....

the male is on my avatar, for a bigger pic you can see my personal forum, the thread on breeding 2008 or something like that....

The color is very interesting, but my favorite feature is the interesting saddle shapes. This one will be fun to follow.

Well yeah, after thinking a while I guess it's ok that it's a male. The reason I was hoping for a female would be so I could breed it back to the father, since it's pretty much a given the female won't be available to breed back too...

I guess that route may have sped things up on reproducing another one a little faster but it certainly doesn't speed up proving out if I am dealing with one or more of the known simple mandelean genes which is after all more important!

Well I guess if this little gaffer starts to eat and grow I'll have all the more reason to find a female sunkissed from s-factor clear lines! Lol!

By the way I think his name will be "Fortuna" (luck in Italian) but "Tuna" for short, since I don't want him to get a big head or anything! LOL!!

OH YEAH?!?!

Dare you to say that in Red Deer you butt monkey! Guess you should know you mighty king of the hybrids!!! ROTFLMAO :) :)
