WHAT THE ?!?!?!?!

Very interesting! There was one time, many years ago, that I found an anery corn baby mixed in with a group marked as babies from one of my okeetees. He was kind of unusual, but looked like an anery nonetheless. I had a part time helper, so I chalked it up to my helper mixing something up, since it never happened before or since. Most of my okeetee line has been in my collection for many generations (with a few exceptions), and the "possible" anery is the only time I ever hatched out anything from them other than okeetees or sunkissed okeetees. And I still think the anery was a mixup. He did not have the tan tones that your baby has, so your baby is very unusual. I don't have any explanation of what he is, unless an unusual sunkissed, as far as my side of the bloodline.

I would love to see photos of him when he is older. Congrats on a cool looking baby!

Kitisci is ACR #583. :) As her hatchdate is 1999 she is indeed 9 years old. We'll see how she does, subjecting her to exploratory surgery may be unwise.

The baby is amazing and well, an unexpected surprise. We like those! :D

Well yeah, after thinking a while I guess it's ok that it's a male. The reason I was hoping for a female would be so I could breed it back to the father, since it's pretty much a given the female won't be available to breed back too...

I guess that route may have sped things up on reproducing another one a little faster but it certainly doesn't speed up proving out if I am dealing with one or more of the known simple mandelean genes which is after all more important!

Yeah...I understand that part of it. However, even if breeding it back to its parent you have only shown it is a simple recessive gene. You have NOT shown it's relatedness to the rest of the known genes out there. To rule out the other genes and confirm it is a new gene, the faster route will most definitely be to have it a male to breed multiple females instead of a female that can only breed to one male a year.

Keep us updated with she pics!

Beuatiful baby! It should be really fun to multiple breed him in a couple of years to see whats going on there. I hope the momma comes through.

Wow! All the replies are great guys I REALLY appreciate it! This is pretty fun and exciting for me! ;)

For the short nose comment, I would have to remind that I'm betting this will lengthen out very FAST! I haven't bugged him since I took those pictures, but I was so excited I even broke my own rule of not bothering new borns for this one. Those pictures are about 20 minutes out of egg :) The pic that looks like a water drop on his nose, was I believe the egg tooth, it was definitely tough and hard.

As for someone who asked about mom, she's plugging along. I'm at the point I think I may try to force feed a hopper or something, she's just not into living I think..

Yes, I'm now totally happy this guy is indeed a GUY :) I see the foibles of my inititial thinking, call it heat of the moment!

I also hope Invictus, you know that the silly comment was just for you and I was have some "pre show" fun with you! Can't wait to see you!!! :)

Well, guess that's it for now,

Rebecca

Nope should have everything I would need to test to in the future, charcoal, pastel dilutes, lavenders, sunkissed and assorted amels. The joys of such a varied collection! ;) I hope he'll be up to the challenge, I'd bet it will take him at least three years to get through the girls I'd like to test him to! <supposing he does three a year!> :) Lucky little bugger...

Update

Just thought I'd post one last batch of pictures here before I solely post updated on the "tuna" thread in my personal forum :) He has now shed out and ate right away on his own! I think he's going to thrive! I certainly HOPE so! "What a little beauty" to quote the late great Steve Irwin!

Rebecca

OH WOW!! Even better after shedding! Sure looks like an anery Sunkissed now (not that there's alot of those out there to compare it to, at least not that we've seen labeled as such...hint, hint Rich...and as for my previous comment on the saddle shape, ignore that as one of this morning's new hatchlings here just blew the "square-saddle shape on Sunkissed" theory right out of the water. And I see that lovelie has the typical Sunkissed personality!

Aw, what a little sweetie! That second picture is my fave. Glad to hear he's eating well.

whoa, what a little beauty indeed! beautiful colors and those borders are SO cool!

also i've never really paid attention to their noses before, but somebody previous mentioned that he has a short little nose. now i'm gonna have to pay more attention!

Wow, he is one sweet looking sunkissed-ghost-anery-dilute something! Talk about your chances! I will be paying attention to how this guy progresses.

Tuna is now eating fuzzies and still going strong! Not quite as spunky, but if I persist I can still usually get a rise out of him! More and more pink with each shed!
