What's 4 Dinner? Baby rabbits!

I know this thread is a little old, but a couple people asked for weights and no answer was given.

One of our does just kindled and had a kit that had to be euthanized so I weighted it, came in at 44g. That would put it in a rodentpro size xl adult mouse or weaned rat. Our rabbits are large breed meat rabbits for reference, 12lbs full grown.

The 44 g kit was not a runt, it was injured during the birthing process and had to be put down. The other kits were roughly the same size. I would imagine dwarf rabbit kits would be smaller but don't know by how much. An article I read said there was a visual but non-significant difference in birth size, whatever that means.

That's what I figured as well. But how much of a difference does it take to be a significant difference? A few grams doesn't seem like much to a rabbit breeder but for a snake owner if could be a big difference.

I breed dwarf and dutch rabbits. The dwarfs top out at about 2-3 lbs and thier pinkies weigh about 10-15 grams. my dutches top out at about 5 lbs and thier pinkies are about 20-30 grams. I feed my 3' corns dwarf pinkies, adult mice and hopper rats. I feed my 4+' corns dutch pinkies, jumbo mice and weanling rats.

Feeding rabbit pinks exclusively is not a good idea, unless you are going to supplement the calcium, thier bones are not fully developed and do not have much calcium in them until they hit the hopper stage, which is usually way too big for even the biggest corns. Rabbit of any age is also leaner (in fat) than other prey items, so mixing it up is a great idea!!

Thanks for posting this. I was wondering on the size difference between dwarf, normal, and large breed kits.

The only snakes that will be getting my large breed kits are my boas.

Thanks for posting the weights of the dwarf rabbit pinks(i can't help but think of mouse pinks when i say pinks...).

Yes, when I used to breed lrg breed rabbits, customers would buy the pinks for thier boas and pythons.
