Whats wrong with this Pinky?

It shouldn't hurt your snake to feed a few of those to it, BUT the posts saying it HAS to be old to receive such burns are a little misleading. If in a frost-free freezer that is openned and closed a lot AND the pinks are in an air-tight container, those freezer burnt marks can develop very, very quickly. If that's ALL you fed the snake, and those really are old, then you might see problems develop. Some vitamins, etc., break down during long-term storage of frozen foods. Short term? No concern unless something else is wrong with the pinks. :)

That middle picture would make a great tattoo . . .

does american rodent supply vacuum seal? I know rodent pro doesn't and big cheese does, I've been going with rodent pro, but I think I am switching to get vacuum sealed rodents, what do you guys think?

I have my onw vacuum sealer & put them up in groups. I still get some freezer burn soemtimes (on open packages) & feed those mice with no apparent issues.

I just keep my mice in ziplock bags inside a density foam lined box. The supplier says they'll last 1.5 years like that. After 13 months the first ones still don't have freezer burn =) I try to squeaze out some air, but there is still some in the bag, I just turn the zipper side towards the bottom of the box.

Hmmm thats interesting. A density foamed lined box, what exactly is this? Is it neccessary to have the foam then? The mouse pictured was actually in a rubbermade tub inside a loosely tied plastic bag. There was no foam in this tub, maybe that would make the difference. You don't mean polystyrene do you?

Thanks

I freeze my own pinkies, and if they aren't vacuum sealed, and as I get more pinkies out of the bag if I don't squeeze as much air out as possible, this can show up in two weeks or less.

You know what I do, now that the guy on eBay screwed me out of the vacuum sealer I ordered (but PayPal made him refund me):

I sort the pinks/fuzzies that I buy in bulk into groups of relatively the same sizes- tiny pinks, big pinks, and fuzzies 1,2,3,4. Then I put them in their own group's ziplock, with the size number written on it, and then put the small sizes in one big ziplock, and the big sizes in one big ziplock, and then put those ziplocks along with the ones containing adults/hoppers into a big square Gladware container. I roll the air out of the mice bags, and the bag that holds the bags. (Sounds more time-consuming than it is) I haven't had freezer burn since I stopped keeping them in the paper bags they came in, or in a single ziplock.

Regarding the vacuum packing. Surely once the bag has been opened the vacuum has been broken making the bag useless. Do you have to vacuum seal one feeding sessions worth in seperate packages?

This sounds like a plan :)

It's working out surprisingly well. The bulk fuzzies I bought vary widely in size, which is great, because so do the snakes eating them. So I sort the batch of 50 into four sizes, and then just pick the size I want for whatever snake, and don't have to go through the whole batch again.

I have bought some zip seal bags in anticiaption of my mass frozen mouse orders! I only have one snake currently (i will make an end to such nonsense very soon), so theres no need to sort out the mice as i only have 1 size lol.
I am going to put a few in each bag though to hopefully keep the 20 i have in good knick. I got hold of some new (un burnt) pinkies and put them in zipper bags inside a tub. So far so good they still look great!~

And there I was thinking I was the only person weighing individual mice from a bag of 50 and sorting them into seperate groups. Thanks to this forum I feel 'normal'!
