this forum software (vBulletin) has always had friends, it was just never as obvious. The site isn't changing, just the software it is running on top of

But true, this site isn't changing, that option has always been around.

At least on here I pretty much know anyone who has asked to be my friend- on Reptile Geeks- since I never read the forums, I have no clue who anyone is, unless they're from here. I just add 'em.

I sell reptiles. I need to leave contact info. Free advertisement. My pic is up so people know who they are dealing with. Who to look for at the show . I'm a vendor and people that I meet on this site come to see me at the show.

Get used to it; adding "social networking" options to every type of website, be it news, forums, blogs, commercial, what have you, is a trend that's hit the tipping point.

I recently worked on a site for a 'major retailer' for their "back-to-school" campaign, and the PRIMARY focus was to get the word out on their products via Facebook, MySpace, sending a text message to their cells, and lastly, email.

That's the way the web is rolling. So be it.

I could not bit my tounge any longer. Look the whole friend thing is childish. I consider you all friends on the forum. Some closer than others , but all got to look out for eachother. Jazz we dont allways see eye to eye, and have had some bad words back and forth but if you ever needed my help I would do what I can for you. This is only going to lead to drama. Oh you sided with her so I taking you out of my top friends list or off my friend list.

Sorry I have 2 profiles on MySpace. I know how the drama goes . I got a reptile site because it it the closist thing to a web site that I wiil have for a long time comming. The other is just friends and to keep intouch them and find out what is going on for the weekend. Other than that I hardly go on to most of the clubs I joined. I used to go on them all the time and deal with so much crap. I just aint got the time or head to deal with internet drama anymore. I like this site for the professional way it conducted itself in the last 2 years. I feel it is only going to create more problems. like the clicks that were here before. Like I said before childish. Like the whole point system used to be like when you could take away points. How the child like behavor of having your friends to give someone bad points to be spiteful.
 
I guess I never noticed any difference(shrugs shoulders). I just come here to read the posts for the most part anyway. I've never been to my space so I couldn't tell ya if it was getting to be like that or not.

Don't get me wrong, Vinny. I'm not a big fan of social networking myself, but I DO recognize that both as a web user and a web developer that any protests you and I could make won't make one bit of difference. That was the ONLY intent of my prior post; yes, we've had our disagreements, but this is bigger than you or me. That's the point I was trying to make.

It'll lead to drama ONLY if you let it. Take a look at the "Interesting video..." thread started by Rich Z. There was plenty of drama, and it was taken care of - by the ubiquitous ban hammer - and you don't see any drama there now.

Also, I'd like to think that if someone was my TRUE friend, be it online or IRL, that they'd have the decency to respect my opinion - as I would respect theirs - EVEN IF there was a difference of opinion. Otherwise, the "friendship" was tenuous at best, and disingenuous at worst.

Jazz.dont get the whole hold my breath thing. that was not directed at you . It is I did not put how I relay felt in detail. I was not barking at you but to everyone that may read this thread.

I'm a honest to the point guy the truth is the truth and My word as a ( Man ) person ( have to use PC ) is most important. I'm not going to say someone is right just because they are my friend or I get along with them. If your wrong I say it , If I'm wrong then I say it. No way would I say someone is right when they are worng. It may not be the most popular thing but It is the right thing. This is a snake fourm. The thruth is important and if someone steps out of line there is a nice way of telling them so the can correct their mistake and appoliggize. Like tell them they are wrong in a PM. It is ok in a friendship to agree to dissagree. That is a true test of friendship.
 
I wanted to resist jumping in, but I can't. Some people have the friends list on here because they know how much certain people like to post pictures, and updates. The friends list is a much easier way to find posts by those people instead of hunting around for them, or using the search form. Or, there are some of us that have actually met some of the people on here, and wanted to add to the friends list. As long as there's not people jumping all over it and doing like on myspace ("whoring" to get as many friends as possible), I don't have a problem with it. You're blowing this thing way out of proportion. On here, we're all (well, almost all) adults. I'm fairly certain, by now, most of us know how to conduct ourselves in a professional manner (although I have been proven wrong on that before). I don't believe that this forum could EVER be like Myspace. Yes, there's drama. But there's drama everywhere. It's called life. Get over it and move on.
 
Oh, and if you want "free publicity", post your website in your signature like everyone else. You'd be amazed at what someone can do with just the information they get from looking up your phone number.
 
Rob if you want to you can go to someons profile and look up their subscribe threads and and check out that threads they are posting in and threads they have started. go to someone profile and click on Statistics and this is what you will get
