Bill would give president emergency control of Internet....

OMG the Israeli Noob is posting on a USA political thread!

Seriously though,
I know squat about your internal affairs and I do not trust the media to reflect it properly. I am a bit... cautious with my thoughts about Obama when it comes to how he is trying to affect what's going on here in the middle east.

Maybe it's because I can taste and feel the threat of terrorism more frequently and more vividly... but it's there, it exists, and there should be methods to defend yourselves against it. It's a very real and dangerous threat.

I also know that at least around here, the media LOVES to write all the extremities rather than the actual purpose of a new law suggestion for instance... so these articles don't necessarily reflect the true nature of the bill?
Again, I don't KNOW for a fact ANYTHING, just trying to share a few of the ongoings over here and hope that they may give a different perspective.

I understand the rational fear of being controlled, especially Americans- people whose very essence is freedom. I think however that at some point fear CAN make one think irrationally.

I think that you, as people, have far more power than your government as long as you maintain this belief. I think that the greatest mistake in the history of mankind is when people became indifferent and did not respond or acted against a movement simply because they thought "what's the point?" or "No way I will be able to change things".
As long as you all remember your obligation to fight for your ideals... I don't think that the government can force it upon you.

This is a tool, it can be used for both wrong and right, do not allow yourselves to believe that the government controls you, you control them, they are there for you. Isn't that what the United States is all about?

Anyways... I can't claim that I even begin to understand your reality(though many out there, not necessarily you people, seem to think that they understand ours over here :p). My only attempt here is to maybe lower the level of anxiety...
Maybe I succeeded, maybe I failed.

Have a nice weekend people.

what young adult DOESN'T think they've been through a lot

How does the saying go? When I was 16, I thought I knew everything. I forgot something: I was right! Something like that. LOL.

Does it pose bodily harm to us or other citizens?

Off topic, but this is likely as made up of a "real" problem as the new PC term "cyberbullying."

if you aren't doing anything wrong, then you shouldn't mind the government's control and monitoring.

That's what the "large government"-supporters would want you to think about this. To put it in perspective, not many people that I personally know that voted for Bush supported the USPATRIOT Act. Bush voters didn't act like "Bush can do no wrong." Too many Obama supporters have been (or at least the vocal ones have been) pretty much saying, forcibly, that Obama really couldn't do no wrong. Ultimately, I believe that is the dangerous difference. (Obviously, these are generalizations. Some people voted for Obama and now regret it and some people believed Bush's every little action had to be perfect. There are, obviously, notable exceptions to any such generalization.) The thing to point out is that the "Obama can do no wrong" sayers may not be the common Obama voter - they may just be the VOCAL Obama voters. Big difference, and I am not sure how to tell the difference for sure.

KJUN's been hanging on everything I say for weeks,

I'm not hanging on your every word. We just seem to be reading the same threads, and I tend to reply to posts I disagree with strongly. I just don't think you have ever said and meant something that I can really agree with....lol. Face it - your posts are like a soap opera: they don't make a lot of sense, day two isn't a logical procession from day one, the characters actions make no sense at all, and the plot has no resemblance to real life....but once you start watching it, you get mentally numbed and are hooked. It's like a drug. You have to watch to see what they can possibly say or do next.

I still would like to understand what about America is TOO FREE? What freedoms are we getting too much of and why? How will reducing said freedom make this a better place? You said it, so you MUST have meant something by it. Tell us what you meant so we have the chance to understand. ...or, were you just blindly repeating Obama again without THINKING what the words meant?

Pardon me for being late to the party. I have to sleep sometimes!

Yes, but it's just speculation!. It's like it's the Swine Flu or something. Our internet is fine, our liberties are fine. There's too many positives to be frenzied up by stuff like this all the time. Santa say's chill!!. :santa: "Chill"

For now.

Of course, children raised with such restrictions may not feel the need to escape, until the noose is too tight to escape.

I'm not exactly sure what the details of this internet bill means, but I'll hold judgment until I further understand. There's new fears being born everyday. The swine flu will pick up rapidly, the government is trying to control our very personal freedoms, etc... These are of course all very real concerns, but to let it control our lives is worst than the outcome we fear in the first place.

That'd be a first for you in any thread regarding Obama.

Over my dead and rotting body.....

Anything else I might have wanted to say has already been posted by KJ, Fred, Eric, Kathy, and Nova.

KJ my point about bodily harm was just to show how ridiculous it is to believe the government can protect us from any internet attacks- this entire bill makes no sense!!

Call me old fashion Mr.Cornfield, but I like to go beyond "endorsements & repping" to express my views. Hide behind the big & tall all you want, but when the wind blows you'll be one of the first to blow over. You know a lot about Corn Snakes, and when I have a question my brother can't answer your the first person I go to, but politically I'll give that nod to Mrs.Love, and philosophically I'll give it up to Mr.VetusVates. We need to toast to freedom of speech , just as long as we don't drink too much!.:puke01:

"Hide behind the big and tall"? I was just acknowledging that they expressed my views in a way that it would be pointless for me to reiterate.

Is that the one that we have too much of? Or was it a different one?
Discretion and freedom are separate!. We should be free to speak from the heart, however it may sound, but I also won't pretend some things should never be said. Anything spoken from pure hatred should not be tolerated; not from the government, but from the unspoken law between people. Freedom is something that should never be abused, because it leads to ignorance and often hatred. If people stood up for one another even if it doesn't condemn us, we should. If you hear racism; speak out. If you hear hatred; speak out. Fight for your own freedom, and good will come of it. I personally don't allow anyone in my presence to say anything racist or hateful and it helps to exclude that hatred from my life as well as others. That's something I can do to make a difference without depriving someone of their rights to speech, and in a small way it makes the world a better place.

If they start bringing in a security system called "Cyberdine" then I think it will be call for concern..This is probably how it all started...just a simple little bill..then all human rights...

Doesn't this sound great?! The gov. is really looking out for us! :0)

heheheh.....:grin01::grin01:

Proverbs 23:31-32 "Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, when it giveth his colour in the cup, when it moveth itself aright. At the last it biteth like a serpent, and stingeth like an adder."

Nah, make that "year". :grin01:

I broke my brain last week (it was already fragile), and I haven't fully recovered.

(I just realized....I think I can now remove the plea from my sigfile.) :D

Hah! Well, it could always serve to coax us for '10. :)
