SNOW!!!!
I went out to the farm today to be there while my new thoroughbred was getting her feet trimmed, and I decided to take my camera to get some pictures of the herd.

First up is Sailor and Victor. Sailor is my new girl (16 hand, 4 year old off-the-track chestnut thoroughbred...she has a progression thread here) and Victor is my sister's pony (13.1 hand, seal brown Hackney cross).

Victor truly is a great big warmblood trapped in a teeny pony body. He has the biggest trot I've ever seen on such a little guy. Unfortunately, he's pretty much not trainable...he's just a 'goof off around the farm' pony who frequently returns to the barn without his rider. ;)

More to come....

Next we have the first pasture of 'the boys'...Ike, Chaz, and Rusty.

Ike, 9 year old, 16.2 hand, bay off-the-track thoroughbred gelding:

Chaz, 4 year old, 15.3 hand, Selle Francais/Quarter horse gelding (he is a half brother to Nicky and Lucy)

Rusty, my aunt's Arab gelding, 15.2 hands, 15 years old (he was my first horse, we sold him to m aunt a few years ago and she boards him with us):

Still more....

Now the other pasture of 'the boys', Nicky, Sonny, and Nugget.

172.jpg

Nicky, my Selle Francais gelding. He's 6 years old, 17 hands, and really dark bay (his winter coat looks seal brown though... :(). I had a heck of a time getting pictures of him because he insists on following me everywhere I go.

Sonny, 13 year old, 16.1 hand bay Appendix Quarter Horse gelding. He is my sister's event horse (doing Preliminary level).

And Nugget, a 12 year old, 15.2 hand Colorado Rangerbred gelding.

Still more...

And last but not least...'the girls', Spice, Lucy, Tokon, and Kat.

170-1.jpg

Spice, my 8 year old, 13.3 hand liver chestnut Quarter pony/POA cross.

Lucy, my sister's Selle Francias mare. She's Nicky's full sister. She's 7 and stands at 16.1 hands.

And one of our boarders, Kat (my sister's best friend's pony)...she's a 15 year old, 14.1 hand British Riding Pony.

And our last boarder, Tokon. She's our friend Chris's pony. I don't know anything about her really...I know she's an Arab cross of some sort and she's about 14 hands...

And a picture of the barn, as seen from the pastures.

The pastures (we have 4, totaling about 9 acres):

I'll find and post some pictures of the horses that competed this summer. They look so much nicer in their summer fur... :)

What a feast for the soul! Beautiful horses. I love little Spice! And Nugget! And..... all of them! Wonderful pictures, thank you for sharing.

Thanks Janine! Spice is such a fun little girl. I take her out for trail rides and she's so reliable. She'll go ANYWHERE!! Unfortunately, she has heaves, so we can't do much more than walk these days, but she used to be an incredible jumper (she can jump 3'3'' with no problem) and a Pony Club games pony. I wouldn't give her up for anything.

Nugget is now my mom's horse. He was my sister's first event horse, and he is really good at his job. He's been used by many different Pony Clubbers for ratings and camps. He's all business once you're on his back. :)

I love Victor! But then again, I'm partial toward seal browns. All of your horses are lovely! I wish I could have a little herd, too! But I'm thankful to at least have my own trusty steed. :}

Thanks for sharing!

They are all beautiful Hallie! Thank you so much for posting pics of the whole crew! I think if I lived there I would never want to work or go to school or anything - I would spend all my time in the barn with the horses.

Sooo when I am invited? :D

You have so many beautiful horses....I'm very jealous!! And such a nice, big barn....aaahh

Thank you Katie! Its a pain in the winter, but in the summer we hardly ever leave.

Sooo when I am invited? :D

Thanks. :) If you're ever down my way, you're welcome to come out.

I rode when I was a kid, but there was always some sort of nervous distrust between me and most horses. I still like looking at them. Sailor is a BEAUTY!

Being comfortable around them and working with them has always come very naturally to me (and my sister). We both seem to have a 'connection' with most horses, its pretty cool. And thank you, the more I see her, the more I like her. I can't wait to start her training!! We're just getting to know each other (as I've only had her for 5 days) but we seem to get along beautifully. :)

Great pics, Hallie. I learned to ride when I was 7, and I think I've mentioned I had an Arabian gelding during my college years.
Seeing your pics makes me long for that horse farm smell. Thanks for the line up.

Thanks Eric. That's one of the things I miss when I'm not out there much...the smell. I love walking into the barn (especially right after we put hay up in the summer) and taking a deep breath (after an allergy pill of course...). Its so relaxing. I don't think I remember you mentioning having an Arab! Aren't they great? I have come to prefer the thoroughbreds and warmbloods (obviously, our barn is full of them), but Arabs will always have a special place in my heart thanks to good 'ol Rusty. He taught me so much and we had a wonderful connection.

Great pictures Hallie! And you have a beautiful place & the horses are just awesome. I hope to have my own barn someday. Thanks for sharing & giving us a peek at your life.

Thank you, thank you, and thank you. And you're welcome, I very much enjoy sharing it with people. :) Hopefully someday you'll make it to PA and you can come see for yourself!

Nicky is beautiful. I so miss the horses and riding (had to sell my warmblood after daughter was born)Love the Appy to nice markings. Good luck next season.

Thanks! He's my baby, I don't know what I would do without that big guy. :) And thank you, I'm hoping to actually compete next year, this year my sister's best friend Laura (who is pretty much my little sister) competed Nicky for me.

They look great. I love that horse people are also snake people... well some.

I think a lot of us are...its really cool!
