Our Horses (Attn: Katie)

My sister thanks you, she says everyone should love Victor!! :) You have one?? I wanna see! What do you have?

I do have one! His name is Buzzard, or Buzz for short. He's a Missouri Fox Trotter cross. I've been around horses all my life. My dad is an ex-rodeo bronc rider as well as ex-breeder. But, I live with my mom and step-dad in the middle of big ol' city, so owning a horse was out of the question... Until I went to college!

First winter I called him mine...

Jury is still out on his color. Sometimes he looks like a bay, other times he looks like a seal brown.

Not a bad looking fella you have!! :) I think I'd call him liver chestnut...but I will agree that he's a very different color...Now, being that he's a cross, is he still gaited?

Yeah, he's had some extensive work done from the time I got him. He's not as toned as I'd like, but hopefully some day soon. He's on vacation in the country now, probably getting fat! xD And yes! He will occasionally do the fox trot and is probably one of the smoothest running horses my butt has ever graced. ;}

All of our horses are fat right now! :laugh: I'm hoping Sailor follows suit.

I've never ridden a gaited horse. My aunt has two Tennessee Walkers, but I always ride their Arab when I'm there (him and I are buddies, he hates everyone else) so I've never experienced their gaits. Someday maybe. I've heard pretty good things about Fox Trotters...

He's been a great horse, but has certainly had his "make me!" moments. He was purchased as a rideable horse, but had terrible ground manners! My friend and I quickly fixed that and now he lunges and rides on voice command. I don't even need a bridle anymore! It's amazing how smart these animals really are...

I used to be able to ride Rusty without a bridle (jumping even!), but since my aunt bought him, all of his training disappeared. :( He is still pretty good when I get on him, but we no longer have the bond we used to (he's a grumpy old man now) and I wouldn't trust him without a bridle anymore.

I'm uploading pictures from show season this past year. :D And a few really awesome ones of Victor...crazy pony...

Yes, I hope that after having several months of free reign, Buzz won't have forgotten all his training. I'll going and seeing him next week, so we'll certainly find out! :}

I'm sure he won't forget...its my aunt's bad riding and complete lack of discipline (she lets Rusty get away with EVERYTHING) that ruined my old man. :( But Nicky gets all winter off and he comes right back in the spring....a little fatter, but still knowing everything he knew before he took the time off.

Some more fun shots:

Victor and the famous trot :D (that's Laura, Carly's best friend and my 'little sister')

Great looking trot there! Merlin tends to rush and poke his head in the air in trot, getting him to drop onto an outline always feels like a major achievement! What a beautiful foal too, I love the markings on Nutmeg.

What a nice-looking horse! I'd go with liver chestnut too, personally.

Thanks ladies! I just love the little darlin'...too bad she isn't ours and went back with her owner when she was weaned. :( I'm still trying to convince my mom to get her back though.

I was going through my photobucket account and realized that I never posted the other pics of the horses!! So, since the weather is so crappy here and I've been dreaming about the riding weather getting here (even though that means my ski weather will be gone :(), I thought I'd bring this thread back to life and post some fun summer photos!

Nicky and Lucy's second show ever (they kicked some major butt, both taking Champion/Reserve Champion in their divisions, against horses who have been doing this a lot longer than they have...they were both Champion in the divisions where they were not competing against each other, and Nick took Champion and Lucy took Reserve in the division in which they both competed):

You can see how tall Nicky really is (nearly 17.1 hands)...Laura is a tall girl!

Now some of the 'star' of the farm, Carly and Sonny.

These were taken at the Pony Club National Championships, held in Lexington, VA. Here, they competed in the Show Jumping competition (normally, they do eventing).

These two are pictures that Carly made, and I thought they were just so sweet (the one of her an Nugget actually gets me all teary eyed...he was the one that got her interested in eventing and now she's one of the best event riders in her level in the country) that I had to share them.

Her and Nugget (competing in Show jumping at the 2007 (I believe) Pony Club Nationals):

Nicky at his first ever Event! He and Laura competed in the Starter Division and WON!!!

Apparently he was tired after dressage and was napping like this in his stall....

On cross country, he's not quite sure about his take off spots in the field (he never misses a distance in stadium jumping), so this is NOT a pretty picture, but he got the job done...

Unfortunately, I don't have any of him from stadium.

Lucy's first event, competing in the Beginner Novice Division, turns out I only have a stadium photo from that day...
