2 kids killed by escaped python in Canada

Very sad, I'm suspecting the snake attacked one and then the other when he tried to save his brother. Maybe another child alerted the adults since they were found at 630am. It was too late to save them but prevented the snake from actually consuming??

Store owner Jean-Claude Savoie...
seems to have the same name and seems to reside in the same place as this person, bwdik :shrugs:

i guess it just seems so odd because his own son wasn't harmed, just the two sleep over victims.

Thanks for this link Dave, this is something that is obviously buzzing on all of the Canadian forums, the hobby is much smaller up here and when things go wrong it leaves a HUGE black mark on the hobby. This fact that you have linked seems to have not shown up on any of the forums I frequent as of yet so I will share it, all of the local news programs are obviously wanting interviews (even though we are closer to California where we are than we are to New Brunswick where this occurred, and we can't keep large species in our province) to put the public mind at ease. Hopefully this can help with some explanations. I can promise it certainly won't help the family suffering this absolutely horrific lose though sadly :(

I'm rather not fond of 'assumptions presented as facts'. Like I said, I do not KNOW, it just seemed an odd coincidence when I googled the guys name in quotes without the hyphens, +New Brunswick. I have NO PROOF these are the same person, so it is not a fact.
I notified RCMP of the coincidence.

Bravo Dave!!! While it's still not "fact", your actions may bring light to this situation, and perhaps the true "killer" be brought to justice. I applaud you!

Again, as has been said.... The coincidence is NOT fact. We wait.

There is an interview with the owner of the home that these boys were killed in, he doesn't seem at all upset and blew it off as "well the snake got out, it was an accident, that is all" kind of attitude. It is very tragic. I agree not to make an assumption that is absolutely 100% is the same person, we will find out soon enough I'm sure.

there's should be something on the news tonight about this, the odtopsy (have no idea if that's spelt right) should be released tonight aswell,

I am very currious as to what really happend, as somebody else already said this is going to make a HUGE deal here, since exotics are already sooo under the scope, in Canada.

in my city Alone were only alowed to keep colubrids, already.. this isn't gunna make things any better. :(

New reports are showing the snake.was kept in the apartment and not the pet store as initially thought. It allegedly escaped through a small hole in the top of its floor to cieling enclosure.

Still not convinced the owner is 100% free of fault. When he took on this animal, he took on the responsibility that goes with it. His pet killed 2 kids. He deserves at least 10-20 in prison for involuntary manslaughter . Add additional fines & time for housing illegal herps.... This guy never sees the light of day. If I were judge. Where do I sign up?

How exactly does a 100lb animal fall through the ceiling and not wake anyone up? Including the kids it fell on or near?

I don't believe it crashed through the ceiling as they'd have you believe. From the UJR interview, it sounds like the hole it came through was in a different part of the room. It probably just slithered right down out of the hole. Remember, a 14 foot snake, if it popped it's head out of a hole, could easily reach the ground, slither out, and probably not make much of a sound.

This guy should rot. This isn't the first time it had went up the ventilation, either.

Or better still.....

How does it constrict one child.... Without waking the other.... I'm sure.... As with any constriction.... There must have been some thrashing about. Why did the 2nd child not alert someone?

Again... Something here just doesn't add up.

The initial autopsy results have been released, the boys did die of asphyxiation but there are more test results that they are waiting on. I really hope they find more evidence in the further testing. If they were constricted wouldn't one thing they would have some severely damaged bones from the crushing? I know when we feed live, the mice are pretty broken up after the snake constricts them.

Another fishy thing is that they were having a sleepover at their friends yet sleeping in a different room than the friend (the owners son). I have to agree with Rich, I am reasonably certain that there would have been some serious thrashing around during the whole process, even our little colubrids can make one h*** of a racket when they are on a mission to kill their mice.
