2 kids killed by escaped python in Canada

CNN, 6-9 am. They are addressing this. I think I'm going to get up and watch it.

What I want know is, wheres the proof it was asphyxiation by snake and not human hands?

If "hands" were used, there will be trauma and bruising to match every fingertip. If a pillow or such was used, it will be harder to "prove" but evidence will still show it beyond reasonable doubt. I'm a forensic junkie, 0% chance the man strangled these children and goes free blaming it on the snake.

The interview with Brian (UJR) said that there were bite marks on both of the children.
Regardless, the owner should be held accountable, no question. The snake should have been in a secure enclosure, & it was not.
I hope he gets held accountable.

I guess what needs to be asked now is motive. Why would this man kill the boys then pass blame onto the snake?

Was he & the boys' mother intimate? Is he the sexual offender in the info Dave discovered?

Why were the boys sleeping in a room without their friend( owners son).

Why were the boys allowed to go to bed without properly washing up? ( this man should have known the scent of prey animals was all over these kids....)

I still say they hang his ignorant a** for gross neglect of human life.

And in the long run.... Outside the mother ..... Who will suffer for the actions of this man??

You & me.... And every other herper out there. I have zero pity for this fella. Zero.

If there were bites, then it's clear the snake killed the children, presumably in a feed response. Did it not try to swallow either? How did kid #1 not scream out? How did kid #2 not wake up? I'll buy the snake killed two children for now, but it's still a strange story.

Onto my personal rant... Who *wants* an African rock python? I mean, that has ever been around them? At least (on average) retics are observant and Burms are placid, but Af Rocks are big, mean garbage snakes that should not be in the pet trade at all. I'll fight for the few good people's right to keep them who like them, but I do not understand their rationale. I really don't. And I've been around several of them, I'm not basing my judgment on 3 or anything. Rocks are jerks and they get dangerously big. Why in the HELL does anyone choose that species?

Chip is there proof of bite marks present? I've "heard" there were bite marks, but was it in the autopsy report?? IF there are bite marks, then that's the smoking gun. But if not, I'm waiting for the 100% proof it was the snake and not this Savoie man staging a crazy story..

Chip....

I'm 100% in agreement with you on this. I think the snake DID kill the kids. But I also believe there is a long list of neglectful things this man did... That if they'd been done correctly.... There wouldn't be a news story.

He needs to be held accountable.

If you listen to the UJR interview, Brian (I think that's who it was) has been in contact with the RCMP, & confirmed that there was bite marks on both of the kids.
I would not be surprised if the snake did in fact kill the two boys.
Even so, the owner did not have the snake in a properly secure enclosure, he is ultimately at fault. I agree Chip, I do not understand why anyone would want to keep them either.

I don't know anything about big pythons, so is it common for a python to constrict, presumably not eat it's "food", and then constrict another "prey" item?

At the store I use to work at, I fed all of the snakes. We had a ball python that would regularly kill her mouse then refuse to eat it. Sometimes it happens. No idea why.

I also agree with why keep an African Rock Python? Just does not make sense to me. If one wants a huge snake, there are a variety of other more appropriate species.

A message from founder Jay Brewer [Prehistoric Pets] regarding his televised interview this morning:

"Those poor children! I cannot imagine loosing two of my kids, but I would want to know the TRUTH! All of it. I would want to know why there was no bites, no blood, & no trauma?Reports said at first Savoie tried to wake the boys, why would you think they would wake up? Because they looked like they were asleep with eyes closed.Carbon monoxide is called the silent killer. It leaves no bite marks, no blood, & no trauma. Comes from ventilation pipes (which were broken by the pythons escape) and goes to the lowest points in the room... the floor were the kids where sleeping. Also the preliminary autopsies came back as asphyxiation again pointing away from the python.

Harry Greene professor and snake expert at Cornell University explains "constrictors do not kill by asphyxiation" and Brad Chambers further details "snakes kill by a catastrophic spike in blood pressure and cardio pulmonary failure"Too much suggesting something different happened! Why are these questions not being answered by the news? Why is the information being withheld? Is it possible the story would no longer be sensational?

Last night I thought I would have the opportunity to share these FACTS along with the many others that make this terrible incident questionable and try to show the normal characteristicsof pythons. After all our companyPrehistoric Petshas had million of safe and educational interactions with children. This is COMPLETELY out of character for these snakes.

Unfortunately I was not given the chance fromCNN. Instead of playing the over 30 minutes of responses recorded, just seconds of the interview was edited, reinterpreted, and misrepresented. This is an EXTREMELY disappointing showing from CNN who I hoped would report on the truth instead of the narrative they would like to lead. I went on to defend not only pythons, but the TRUTH in the media.I will no longer assume in naivety that my words will be shared in their entirety and will no longer take any pre-recorded interviews with news outlets such as these that aim to push an agenda instead of the facts."

Tragic indeed. I live only a couple hours away from where the incident happened. It sickens me how the media twists things to get a more sensationalized story. There are still a lot of unanswered questions but the media has everyone convinced the big bad viscous snake did it. Now everybody grab your pitch forks and torches and lets get rid of all snakes. To top it off over half the articles I have seen follow up with a picture of a ball python. Only one article of dozens have had a pic of an actual rock python. On a side note. I saw this snake myself a few years ago. Very impressive animal. It is illegal to own in or province without a permit. So how did he get it? It was given to him years ago by the government. Yup that's right Natural Resources confiscated it and did not know what do with it, so they gave it to him until they could figure it out. Guess they forgot about it till now.

I live in New Brunswick, and this is all anyone has been talking about. Sad for everyone all around. That poor mother had that horrific phone call about her boys, and the snake was euthanized.

sad

I live about 45 mins from Fredericton-- awesome to see a fellow New Brunswicker on here! That aside, it's sad about the boys, sad about the snake but we're not hearing the whole story here i'm sure.

Just going to copy and paste my public service announcement from Facebook...

I must say, I am completely FLABBERGASTED right now. Completely and utterly terrified for the world.

AS SOON AS some news report or article that goes against our beliefs comes out, such as the article about the infamous "python deaths," we begin picking it apart, detail by detail. It's impossible, there's no way, snakes don't behave like that, where were the parents, why was his son in another room, how did the snake get out, question question question, a MILLION questions were posed about that article. Every detail was picked apart like crows pick at garbage. There are threads with pages upon pages upon PAGES about speculation of the details of the "python deaths."

Yet when one article comes out that cites absolutely no sources, everyone turns around and says I KNEW IT, it was probably a murder cover up!! Well guess what,

MEDIA WINS.

Because all of you are being just EXACTLY like the public were when this story first broke. Everyone just take a second to chill the hell out and actually USE YOUR BRAINS like you did to pick apart the media when this story FIRST happened. Just use your brains for one second before hitting the "Share" button. Just because a WEEK OLD article from a reporter that who doesn't even know the difference between poison and venom, with absolutely ZERO sources, from a DIFFERENT CONTINENT, nevermind a different COUNTRY, comes out to validate what you were thinking all along, does not make it so.

Sheep sheep sheep. Sweet baby jesus. I need to back away from the internet now.

Of course, not directed at who posted the article, but just at everyone.

As of typing this, the article has been shared in my feed SEVENTY FIVE times today.

You know I went back and took a closer look at the comments and saw that people claiming to be Canadian were saying that there are no local news saying that it's been moved to a possible homicide investigation, so did some searching around and didn't find anything else saying that either.

I did find this article that's a couple days old and by a news group I've never heard of before but actually seems to be the best write up about it that I've read so far, well written and the writer seems very unbiased, just reporting on what various people said, not trying to lead the reader to their own judgement. Sorry if it was posted before too.
