2009 Yahoo - Pro Football Pickem - Contest - Prizes

dyk, I am not a fan of the Cowboys at all so I would have rather had them lose. Since everyone picked Dallas it wouldn't have changed anything.

I couldn't agree with this more. You can throw the Cardinals in to that category too for all the Steeler haters. Lol.

EDIT! I didn't realize you were online, Vinny. I saw that the scores were already done, so I posted. Hope it's okay.
It's fine but you have to wait till tomorrow morning. The numbers are off. They don't update them right away. If you look at this weeks results vs the total points it's off by one.

The offense looked terrible in the first half.

Thy didn't look much better in the second half. But against Carolina it was good enough.

Both Gruden and Jaworski were talking about the Cowboys fan have given up on Romo too quickly. That he has a good win percentage and some good stats. I think the Cowboys need to be all about the running game. Pass when they need to.
Totally agreed!. Felix Jones lights it up when his numbers called and so does Barber and Choice. If Romo just became a facilitator they would be deadly. Especially on 3rd downs when they could have them guessing what the play call is. Now it's just shut down Witten and watch them beat themselves.

BTW, anyone else think Jerry Jones should have burnt Jason Garrett's contract on the spot after the back-to-back goal line misses. It was so obvious the run game got them there, yet they abandon it with one yard to go. Then you see Wade Phillips in Garrett's ear on 4th down like "You think we should go for it; I'm sure if we ran it we'd make it". In the end they kicked it, but it's that sort of hindsight logic that makes them look so far behind the 8-ball.

They have the o-line to turn into a run first team, they certainly have the running backs, and Jason Witten has proven time and again he can block as well as he can catch. Mental mistakes are what lose them games, and if it were up to me I would fire Phillips and Garrett at the end of the season. Then I would hire Mike Shanahan and give him full control of the offense. That's how they get back on track to start contending for a Super Bowl IMO, even with Romo as the starter.

Yeah. CLOSE... BUT it will get harder and harder to close the gaps... its only the "upsets" and "close ones" that will win or lose points. EG... if Dallas had lost last night (everyone picked Dallas), the differences would be the same... just one short for everyone who participated.

So the only way to make ground on those above you is to pick:
1. DIFFERENTLY on certain games.
2. WIN those certain games.

THAT is the difficult part.

Lol, that's what I tried to do this last round and it backfired, but I'm sure there will be a few more chances to pick some upsets...

I'm tempted to do the same... but hate the idea of FALLING BACKWARDS... I should add a #3...

3. HOPE those above you try to pick out upsets and FAIL!

Lol! the worst part is the underdogs I picked first, I went back and changed thinking there was a better chance for the other three, and then the first ones pulled off wins! I think it's been a running theme that we need to stick with our instincts...

:D :( That happened to me this Sunday. About a week ago, I picked Cincy to beat the Steelers. Don't know why... must've heard something or noticed something that week. BUT, Saturday night - AFTER I forgot all the circumstances around that pick, I found myself thinking... "Why would I pick the lowly Bengals to beat the SB Champs?" and reversed it. Needless to say...... :(

LOL.

That's why I don't try to predict upsets, I just go with the split games, and hop that it separates me that way, because upsets are too risky.
There have been numerous games that I would have picked to go the other way for the upset, but I chose to play it safe until there's a point where I may need to get desperate.

Ex. Week 1: I actually liked SF over ARI, but knowing that everyone would pick Arizona, I figured it wasn't worth the risk of going backwards seeing it was a guaranteed safe pick.

Week 2: CHI vs PIT. I was going to pick Chicago, but didn't, because of the same reasons I didn't pick SF over ARI in week 1.

And finally week3: DET vs WAS. Same reasons as week 1-2, and still not worth the risk of losing.

Still pretty close between everyone!! Its funny because I find myself rooting for teams I don't root for solely for this contest! :)
Welcome to the club!!! I was pumping my fist when Favre threw that touchdown in the last couple seconds to beat SF... I haven't rooted for the Vikings (other than on Pick'em) since the 80's!!! :p

Imagine a Cowboy fan ROOTING for Washington? Ughhh. Just about EVERY week there's gonna be one of these... LOL.

For me, sports hasn't really been about rooting for the teams I like, it's always been about rooting for whoever is playing the teams I hate! So this has been weird, lol.

Luckily I work 12-8 on Sundays, so I don't have to sit around biting my nails all day when my pick-em teams are losing!
