A sounds almost like popping when being handled

I think a lot of the issue to is the fact we are typing to each other. There is no tone or inflection with text. Something typed with concern, might be read as something sarcastic. We have no control how other read our words in this medium. That leads to a fair bit of misunderstanding.

I hope your girl is okay.

That's true.
I think I'm just feeling a bit crap since I've lost one snake, bought another and this one is not in the best condition ever and I had no idea.
=/

So how did her check up go?

Right, nothing to worry about.
No RI to be seen, she just hadn't popped her jaw back after her meal, but she did this morning, and her head was fine. The popping isn't anything to worry about, it's just a vocalisation, part of personality, nose and mouth are clear.
I will find out myself, what her morph is, because it certainly isn't an Amel anything =/ So, I'm not too pleased but she's my baby, anyway - so that's that.
So, I think she's a healthy lil woman, it's been put to stress, all the popping and lil hisses - since she's pretty much silent now, when handled, so all clear there.

I will be keeping an eye on her for another month or so just to make sure. Dropping her feed to a medium a week. But all is well, we looked inside her mouth, all clear and snakey <3

She's a healthy girl, with a quirky personality.

Okay, sorry, I'm just getting defensive over her.

Well, I'm going to get her checked out today anyway. I'm not too pleased. As I said, her feed is once every 4 days, and she's digesting quick as a flash. So that's saying something.
In terms of "mess up", I'm meaning she was dragging the mouse around and lifted it up, and possibly jolted herself there.

Thank you for the advice, however. I will put it to use today.

I'm not a bad owner, and that should show since I've taken the time to ask for help.
Just saying :3

You can see her spine in the picture of her feeding she looks very thin and the meal was very large it looked like a small rat. She should be eating adult mice and nothing bigger for the rest of her life time, if your store isn't selling adult mice anymore try feeding hoppers every 5-7 days as Nanci suggested to me anyways can you let us know what they said?

I'm glad to see that your snake is doing good Ceasar makes a popping noise when I handle him as well so I'm glad to see that everything turned out good for you

It's not a rat...
I will double check that when I get back home and buy a comparison.
Her weight will improve but I gave an update, seems she's fine, and I think that's gonna be the end of the updates.

Uh, snakes don't "vocalize" as they have no vocal cords. And she sure doesn't look healtlhy at all either.

"Gonna be the end of the updates" huh? People wanted updates because they are concerned about your animal. You are defensive and snippy to people who are only trying to help you.
I write you off as a lost cause. Snake deserves better though.
You definately are not making any friends here, and this is a pretty friendly place. Sad, but you can just remain as you are.

You're a lovely person and yeah, I was defensive, can't help that can I?
I write you off as someone I don't know. Marley is just fine with me, I have quite a few people helping me out with ideas and information.
There was no need to cut me down, and sure, I've had a lot of people help and it's appreciated.
No more updates because I have nothing left to add =/ I updated when she came back from the check-up (no RI, I wasn't 100% sure on her breed/type/morph and will be looking for others opinions).
So chill - don't start accusing me when I've done nothing wrong, please ^^

No RI is fantastic news. A couple of my snakes do wheeze and pop when they are in shed, I used to be convinced they were at death's door until I realised it was just loose skin in their nostrils. Some of my less handling-friendly snakes, like my ratsnake Killer, tenses up and has noisy breathing every time I hold him even if he's not in shed and that really did convince me he was ill until I realised it was the warning that he was going to musk or bite me if I didn't put him down!

I was so happy when I saw the inside of her mouth and it was pink and clear.
She tenses up just at the beginning when you hold her, especially if you hands are cold, but after that, there's nothing :D I think she was doing the same as yours ^^ Thank you.

This may sound odd, but did it almost feel like there was 'popping' under her skin? When Killer is really getting irritated I can feel how tense he is and it's like his muscles are so tight his joints are popping. (He used to bite so badly it took me months to get him this good at being handled, he's a work in progress!)

At one point, yes, I think I handled her prematurely and she did as you have just described, it was a little alarming. Not a sign of it now though, but I think it'll take some time for her to truly be a calm one with me, poor lil mite <3

BINGO!!!.........classic RI signs!

Waiting around is the last thing that should happen. The temps need to be raised into the high 80's and see a vet for some antibiotics!!

~Doug

She's been checked, its not an RI.
But on the note of raising the vivarium temp. how would I do that? I have one heat mat, which seems addiquate - I need to get a thermometer as well but...we are measuring in F not C right X) n00b question, but doesn't ever hurt to check

So- if the shop you bought her from would sell a very thin snake, making popping sounds, whose jaw looks odd- why would you trust them to evaluate her health now?

Exactly!

shop prognosis quote: "um, yeah, this snake we just sold you seems to be just fine,. they click, pop and hold their jaws funny all the time" :sidestep:

Okay, so, let me put this down again

Jaw: sorted because she put it back in place after her meal.
RI: Not there - her mouth is clear.

Popping & Clicking: It's her actually tensing up, and she will hiss if stressed.

Conclusion: They didn't give me the truth the first time, I'm going to have her checked AGAIN by an outside party. I've had her 5 days max, so I'm doing my best in 5 days to get her back onto the road of health. I'm not just sitting around staring at her, doing nothing, alright?
They explained the jaw, the sounds and the weight is still un-solved, but that will go up with feeding.

So, yes, I'm the best, but at least I'm trying and asking.

To everyone who hasn't been following this post. Desertstrike is not the one who put that snake in this condition, just the one who's got to fix it. if you don't have anything helpful or supportive to say, post it elsewhere.
my thanks and support to all of those who are helping. wish I knew enough about this condition to assist.
