Absolutely Heartbroken :-(

Yikes... I'm hoping you find him soon too!
Just know, it IS possible to find him even 6 months later... Happened for one of my lavenders a few years ago. :)

Cleopatra was out all this past winter, I set up a little warm spot for her, and around February, I believe, I found her under my turtle enclosure not too far from her old tank...

Thanks guys. I appreciate your words of encouragement. So far, no luck, and Z spent the day removing everything from the room one thing at a time, so that we could check every little corner, crevice, pocket or book binding. Still no luck :-(.

I know these things happen, sometimes, but WHY does it ALWAYS have to be a favorite snake who goes missing? Before, it was Rose Tyler. Never did find her. Now it's the little Tessera. Is Someone "upstairs" trying to punish me for some reason? I dunno. We'll just keep on looking, and hopefully we'll have good luck finding it alive and well before too long.

I almost bashed my idiot little brother's head in for the same thing. I asked him "did you LOCK MY TANK" he said yes.

I get home and both snakes are gone. I was livid. I found my precious male in my bed...my smart little severus knew to stay where I could find him lol...but the blizzard I had JUST bought was gone. I never saw her again. This happened a few months ago...I was none too happy.

My tessera baby is still missing. It's kind of taken the heart right out of me--I wanted one so badly, and John was kind enough to send a male tessera to breed with my female, and the only tessera baby in the clutch of 6 was that one. And now he's gone. I know it's stupid, but I can't seem to stop crying, even as we tear this house apart trying to find it. I hope we'll find it alive and well, soon. I need a miracle right about now.

...

Don't give up, I lost mine and a friend found it by accident 2 weeks later in the same room.

Not to be out of line here, but I'm sure your spouse didn't do it on purpose (and I know you realize that as well), so try not to take your energy out on with anger. Of course, make it clear this cannot happen, ever, but a different approach will put you both in a better mood for searching.

Good luck!

Have you got tape traps set up? I haven't tried it yet myself, but hear the blue painters tape they use for masking is easily removed yet sticky enough for the little ones to get stuck to. They tend to stay around the walls when they explore. I'd try that as well as try putting flour on the floor so you would see tracks if it went that way.

Om gosh I even feel a bit weak in the stomach reading this, that feeling of realising one of your snakelets escaped is soooo bad :( And I did not even have a gem like a Tessera escape... I'll send you good vibrations!!!!!

She'll turn up! It's only been two days. Don't lose faith- keep looking, especially at night. Recheck places you have already looked.

Yes, every night. So far, the only thing we've caught is Rex, our 16 y/o Border Collie, who can't see, but sticks his nose into everything.... We keep trying, though.

We caught an escapee once by putting a live mouse in a wire cage. Snake went in, ate the mouse and couldn't get out with the lump in it's belly. My snake weighed about 100 grams and was feeding on weanlings. Used hardware cloth for the cage.

I've only had one snake escape. I set out tape traps and pinkies in a small-mouthed plastic bottle on top of a heating pad but to no avail. I ended up pouring a 2" wide line of flour along every baseboard in the house to see if I could track her movements or if she was still in the house. (Luckily, every room is tiled except for the bedrooms and I have a very understanding girlfriend)

Every morning I would see snake tracks in the flour but could never find where she was hiding. At least I knew she was alive and in the house though! After about a week, I woke up to frantic barking from my dog. The dog was in the front of her kennel (crate-trained) and the tiny snake was curled up in the back. What a way to for a puppy to wake up, lol! I was very happy that my beautiful amel motley was safe. Took over 3 hours to shop-vac all the flour but it was worth it as it had given me hope every day.

Hope you find your baby Tessera soon!

I know it feels hopeless, but you still have a good chance of finding your little one. Don't give up! Prayin' you find him/her.

I am a newbie here...and you guys know EVERYTHING about snakes. I am always so impressed. I read through your post and what I didn't see was if you tried a bottle trap with a mouse? I would imagine setting out a few of those every couple of days would get results when she gets hungry. I really hope you find her..tessera's are really special. good luck

Sorry, I meant to suggest a bottle too. I know a regular soda bottle wouldn't be much use because your escapee is too small. I was thinking of a craft store plastic bottle of the type kids use for sand art or "message in a bottle" crafts. They come in several sizes with very small openings, but the body of the bottle is soft enough plastic you could slice it with a carpet knife and force a pinky in. Then WHEN you are successful, you could carefully cut the bottle in half with kitchen shears to free your baby. Wishing you the best luck.

Thanks for the suggestion, Bethanne. Since I still haven't found him, I'll do just about anything that "might" work, since the usual methods haven't, so far. I'm still so upset about losing the little one that I can't really even talk much about it, yet.... In fact, I'm like other people I've heard say that losing a special snake made them wonder whether they should even stay in the hobby. That's where I am right now, and I LOVE my snakes.

You have tape traps out still, right? And I would put out water, along the walls, just so she can get a drink even if you don't catch her doing it.

I've had success with bottle traps in the past - just use a 20 oz. soda bottle instead of a 2-liter. It works just as well because the snakes look around the edges for a way out - not in the middle. Something else to think about is look near a water source. One of my dad's corns got out (twice actually - he was something of an escape artist) and my mom found him in the bathroom both times. Good luck!
