TBH... I felt that a holiday was coming up.... I'm just amazed at how far she got before the button was pushed..I didn't mean to imply that you didn't have a right to ask! Sometimes there's behind-the-scenes stuff...

Your mellowing in your old age, Deano.
Michael, i think this is the first time i have agreed with you in a while!Religious symbol or not, there becomes a point where we need to use common sense, overlook the political BS, and respect our fallen soldiers in a way that reflects their courage. This is disrespectful to the dead, and I am appalled that a memorial would be taken down on this basis.
I don't want religion forced upon me, but that is a definition that I can look at unbiasedly. I agree with Zoologygirl about the exact symbol that is in question, but I think that our over sensitivity yet lack of compassion is frightening. If we can't display our memorials for fallen soldiers in a way that they would have liked, then how do we honor them?
exactly.People these days act like if they see a cross they are being "forced" to be a Christian!
The cross is religious, and there is no disputing that. But it wasn't USED as a christian device. Its a MEMORIAL. Not a symbol that people have to pray at 6 hours a day! Its not meant to honor god or any of that, its meant to honor or vets! And the government didn't even put the cross up so its not even a violation of church and state. They have no right to board it up or any of that BECAUSE THOSE VETS HAD A FREEDOM OF SPEECH! and the government didn't put it up so there is no basis for the church and state argument!hey are claiming it is not "religious". I find that bogus.
I agree. It's a memorial, to honor the fallen, made by those of the Christian faith. All the power to them. And if someone wants to make a pentacle memorial, all the power to them as well.
Its been there over 60 years.. why hasn't anyone tried to take it down before this???Not on federal land, they aren't.
As far as you know!?!?!?! so you don't even KNOW if its on federal land!?!?!?!As far as I know.
IT WAS NOT ERECTED BY THE GOVERNMENT AND YOU DONT EVEN KNOW IF ITS ON GOVERNMENT LAND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!government erected monuments on government land.
that makes absolutely no sense....The cross was NOT erected as a Veteran's Memorial...it was erected as a cross.
Thats because we ARE loosing patriotism. To most people now, the us is just the big bad wolf and we need to apologize for things we never did to the world, and that we need to give up or "superpower" status..It's like we are loosing partiotism...
IT WAS NOT PUT UP BY THE GOVERNMENT NOR IS IT ON GOVERNMENT LAND!!!!!!!!!!!! :realhot:separation of church and state," nuff said!
I disagree.There is no non-religious display of a cross.
ITS NOT ON FEDERAL LAND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :headbang:There are rules and regulations concerning the placement of religious icons on federal lands
i agree!Yes, they're supposed to represent our viewpoints, but once they get into office the glory of the position overrides any sense of right or wrong, and they do what the extremists dictate.
Seriously, I think you've missed the boat on this discussion........Michael, i think this is the first time i have agreed with you in a while!

And i don't think anyone said that it was on federal land. I can say anything for sure, but who knows? maybe it isn't on federal land!

ive got a football game to play, so i'll finnish later.
im on page 9
ive never seen such a bigoted reporter before. not to wish bad on her, but i dont see her making it very far in the reporting world. not saying theres no biased reporters. but they also make points without hissy fits because someone disagreed.
So, Cornsnake124, by your logic, the fact that the illegally erected memorial stood for 60 years before somebody pointed it out should grand-father it in, right?
So does that mean that if I can manage to grow marijuana in a National forest for a decade or two without getting caught, that also should be grandfathered in??
IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO SUPPORT THE TROOPS AND NOT THE WAR!Even at the height of President Bush's unpopularity people were saying we support the troops, not the war.
We can't and shouldn't accommodate every religion, demonination, etc. at every war memorial. Why can't we just display the flag? Isn't that the symbol of the actual institution for which these veterans fought and/or died?
Strange but true,,,,Just my 2 cents... I'm sure that most Egyptians no longer believe in Ra/Seth/Horus/et al... but instead of tearing down their history, they're embracing it - without any thought of "having to convert". Maybe if we leave it alone in 2,000/20,000 years, it'll be something WE can embrace as our history?
I don't know... I see both sides of this. It just seems that the ACLU is on the look out for the most inoccuous things these days (and not just Christian symbols).
