It's here, it's here!!! This is my AP Sterilite 1758(5)EP.
I had found a group of snakes I dearly wanted, but there was just not another flat surface in my house, much less three, so in order to get the snakes I had to find a rack I could live with. I wanted something that would let me use tall enough bins to give the snakes room for climbing branches and vines. I wanted my bins to look exactly like my vivs. I really liked the look of the EP racks- nice and open for air circulation and light. I wrote to AP to see if they made that rack for 9" tall bins (thinking 12" was too much to hope for). No, but they did make it for 12" bins- perfect! I then wrote to the snake breeder to see if she would hold them for me while I waited the three-four weeks for the rack to be built. Yes!! So the deals were done. When the third week rolled around, I checked in on the rack. They said they were working as fast as they could with lots of orders and it would go out the fourth week, Thanksgiving week. But it didn't, and they promised they would send it the following Monday, but they didn't, (something personal happened) but Tuesday they sent it and refunded my shipping. (They didn't have to do that- I know they were just really busy).
The rack got here yesterday. It ships unassembled (a selling point for me, having experienced the heartbreak of custom cages arriving broken, since they are fragile and hard to pack safely). Every single piece is labeled not only with what it is, but its orientation- Left Front Top. Shelf Two-Second Down. There is an instruction sheet and a picture sheet. There is a bag of screws with about triple the number needed!!! The holes are pre-drilled, recessed, very classy. Everything fits into a slot- there is no way to put it together wrong so things aren't flush. They even tell you what setting to put the drill on so as not to strip the screws or mar the rack. It took me about 30 minutes to assemble it. One person alone can do this easily. AP's phone number is right on the instruction sheet, just in case.
The material the rack is made of is a barely-glossy black plastic, heavy, with a satiny feel. It doesn't feel or look plasticy- it looks like nice black wood. The assembled rack is not rickety or wobbly- it is substantial and solid. It is easy for one person to move. The edges in front are all nicely rounded, and the shelves stick out a little bit which is a really nice look.
The Sterilite 1758 66 quart bins fit with about a 1/4" gap at the top. I would feel safe with an adult, but I think a hatchling could escape. Fortunately, with the lids on, the bins very tightly still slide in.
Ok, here are the pics!
