Wow, that is a great looking snake! While the head and body look more cornish in that last set of pictures there is still something off about Star. It could just be that pattern is throwing me off, I dont know. Either way you have a great looking snake! I hope that if you do breed her that the pattern stays.

mmhmm it is an aztec pattern but I cant say I have ever seen it on just half a snake. They normally show it randomly through the body. The head does not show any aztec pattern that my boy does and he shows more of a zig-zag pattern then this girl but I know the breeding parents hold aztec.

Hmmm...with the up close view of the head pattern and a better shot of the belly, I'm going to stick to my opinion of it being a hybrid of some kind. It is very unusual snake that's for sure and a beautiful one at that!

The head reminds me of this snake...

UPDATE!!!!

I emailed Charles Pritzel with the latest pics above and a few more that weren't posted, total of 7 or 8 I think..lol.... here is the email I received from him copy/pasted....Although I love her no matter what cuz she is absolutely stunning. I was figuring she was normal, just with a super funky pattern. I figured who better to ask than the author of The Morph Guide...

Hi Deanna,

This type of pattern is an extreme (and good) variation of aztec. The more extreme expression like this is often accompanied by disruption of the ventral pattern. There can be missing checkers or long stretches of checkerless white or peppered black on the belly especially where the dorsal saddles tend to connect to each other.

The coloration is within the wide range of normal corn colors, so overall I would say it's probably "just" an aztec.

Again, it's a great aztec, most people would consider themselves lucky to hatch or buy one with that pattern. :)

Thanks,
Chuck Pritzel

i dunno- the eye sockets look VERY rat snake-ish to me... i'd go with hybrid as well... but its definitely been outcrossed into corns....

Hey Deana :) Too bad there isnt a DNA test you can perform on snakes to find out their bloodlines huh..

wow.. I actually said that to Mike earlier today when I read the email reply ...lol
I talked him into that Amel that came in on Friday, he's going to get him this weekend while I'm out of town...hahaha
