Out of those products that didn't help evolve something else was the Pippen but it was going against many different gaming systems already out. Heck, even MS got slammed for the Xbox and people said it would never make it, now we are on the 360.

I still have to stand fast and say this is going to work and tech is going this way. It already has for years but many have not seen it.

Tablets are here to stay, Doctors use them, as well do construction sites. I worked for 2 companies in my life and the one I am currently at are using Tablet pcs. Construction sites love the tech of a tablet pc its easy to carry and show the owners and others what is going on. Mind you, the IPAD is a lower end tablet pc but I think its just the start of affordable tech for the home user. Its simple and its large enough for the older folks to purchase and use. Trust me, if you can use something like a tablet and read it, it will be purchased by the Middle age group.

I personally do not see this being sold to the young but more the middle age group and the Elderly.

All right, throw out the website and the Rokr, and you've got three things. But look at them! They are- just not right. Not all slick and shiny and cool. Plus, the price, to be an early adopter, is WAY down. It's a lot harder for a $500 thing to fail than a $1000 thing.

in my eyes Nanci, i think you are its target market.

Here is another reason why I think the IPAD is not going to die.. to many companies are trying to create their own.
Microsoft has the Courier

and here is Hal
only problem its a 7 inch screen. I want a 8x10.

As expected, the rush to introduce new tablet computers in the wake of the iPad announcement has started, but the iLet Mini HAL offers a price and feature set too attractive to ignore. Using the Android operating system, the 7 inch touch screen tablet computer offers 128 megabytes of RAM and a 2 gigabyte harddrive with a USB port and SD card slot that allows you to expand the device's harddrive up to 32 gigabytes.

In addition to the device's 600 megahertz processor, the tablet also boasts the ability to play YouTube videos as well as a number of other software productivity packages. Priced at just $199, the iLet Mini HAL is possibly the only tablet out there set to give the iPad a run for its money.

Here is another ILet product that I think will give the IPAD a run for its money. It has all the items i am looking for.

This pc has a 10.2 inch touchable screen.

Software preloaded with the iLet 10 include the Microsoft Windows 7 OS (Languages Supported), Microsoft Reader, eReader Pro (Barnes and Noble), Adobe PDF Reader, Open Office, Skype, and more..
160GB SATA
wifi 802.11b/g
3 usb ports
camera is a 1.3 MegaPixel
$449

not a bad looking machine for under $500 bucks.

Apple doesn't flop, lol. It will be a hit, whether or not it 'should' be. I'll take real bets on that. ;)

That said, I'm as disappointed as anyone at some aspects of the iPad and most likely won't buy the first version. It only gives me one bonus over the iPhone I have- a bigger screen. The only thing that could push me over the edge is really really cool apps.

Alan, I also really dig the look of that Courier. I think it even has the iPad beat on looks- something about it's 'bookishness' really appeals to me. I would hate to see it break at those hinges though. And with my experience between Apple and Microsoft, something tells me that it will be easier to navigate the iPad.. But I DO really hope it will be great. You can probably tell I'm on the edge and could be persuaded to switch if it has more of what I wanted in the iPad.

I also agree with you that what I am missing in this first iPad (I THINK- should probably play with one before I really decide) will likely come later. Multitasking is a big thing for me right now.

One of my really big hopes for Apple is that they are using the phone companies now because they need to, but later are going to help us get good deals from them for JUST data lines and we'll get really functional apps for VOIP over cheap data lines. If any company can do that it's Apple, because ATT, Verizon, and the rest should know by now that they will likely get them a lot of new customers with the new product. Other companies can make a phone and maybe switch customers from verizon to ATT, or vise versa, but Apple is unique in that they commonly make a new kind of customer. That's a big diff.
Promising things I've seen that it might be going that way: 1. The $30 unlimited data plan offered for the iPad. Already there's talk that ATT may have made a mistake about that because the usage on the iPad may be more than they were expecting. 2. The fact that Apple just opened up developers to make skype-type apps that will now work over 3G as well as wifi. Something they couldn't allow before because of agreements with ATT.
Can you imagine if this iPhone OS (via iPad, iPhone, or even iPod touch) became a cell phone killer? Much better than just a cell phone if that means cell phone BILL killer.

I think this incarnation is gunning for the book and newspaper model more though. A Kindle killer. Whether or not it will be one I don't know, but I think that's what they hope from this first iPad.

I think it'll be a success. Look at the Kindle, that's taken off, but the iPad is the same price as the Kindle DX, but is in color and does a whole lot more. If they ever support flash and make it into more of a "light" notebook and less of a "super-sized" iphone, they could really dominate that market.

Tom, let's take our iPhones and go home! Eric, you can come with and bring your Touch...

You guys are crazy if you think it's going to be a flop! Everything Apple does is gold.

But that doesn't mean that everything apple does deserves to be gold.

I voted for flop, while I think that a tablet/touch pad idea is cool, I think there are to many problems with the ipad for it to take off (flash, multitasking, camera,SD, USB,etc) also to be honest, I really dislike apple and I enjoy voting against them.
