Sounds like your friend didnt have a clue what he was doing huh?
Well im glad you tried your best, its all anyone could have done, and i congratulate you for that.

no, it wasnt they would of bred before i got them, considering she laid about 3 -4 weeks after i got her, and it normally take 6!!!, so i didnt get her gravid

yeah, i did try my best and i dont think ppl realise that, that fact that im so stressed from my snake getting out to sleep, my exams in two weeks, its so hard to take it all, i should of revised so much, to tell you the truth ive done none thanks to the snaekes

I'm sorry for being so harsh, y.o.n.. Sometimes I forget about the 8,000 mistakes I made as a young keeper. Yeah, there wasn't as much info available then, but some of my mistakes were just stupid. My first clutches were cohabitation mistakes, and were laid on repti-bark. The eggs were incubated stupidly, and low hatch rates were the result. Keep up the research, and I hope you appreciate the great advice that someone like Carol has to offer. Peace. :)

and what to you mean by this, her viv or the nets box?

I meant your nest box. The pot works great as a hide, but they really need a larger container for laying eggs. So if you are going to try it again, I'd wait until your life is not so busy and next time provide a larger box. I just don't want you or another snake to go through this again. I am not even saying that it's a sure cause of her egg binding. I'm just saying there are some steps you can take to lessen your chances of this happening again, starting with educating yourself.

One other suggestion I have is to research pet insurance policies carefully. Many companies have dumb policies that require you to pay first, then send the insurance a reciept, then they pay you back 4-6 weeks later. It is very frustrating. I am going through this with my dog right now. She has insurance and is having health problems. The vet wants immediate payment, but the insurance company wants receipts and a couple of weeks to investigate them. So check that out when you get a policy, or maybe try and find a vet that would accept a delayed payment from the insurance company. Otherwise even with insurance you may have been in the same situation (having to come up with a lot of money up front).

Although this may be true, im sure its the last thing she wants to hear. Her beloved pet has just been put to sleep, and i think this was the wrong time to bring up her inadiquate nest box...

I did not see it, i have never bread snakes, i dont plan to, but really, the girl is still extremely upset. This could have waited till later.

From what i read, it sounds like your blaming her for the death of snake.

Tula I am not blaming her for the death of her snake. I was frustrated a couple of weeks ago when I warned that the lack of an appropriate egg box could be stressful for the snake. At the time the advice (which I know is very sound) was completely disregarded. When I heard of this snakes egg binding troubles, I was not going to say anything.... until.... there was mention of possibly trying to get another breeding sized female. Meaning if nightmare was still convinced that a small pot is a good nest, he/she could be in this same predicament very soon.

Unfortunately sometimes people are much more humble and receptive when they are hurting. I was hoping to take the opportunity to convince him/her that these are the reasons we give advice, and it would be beneficial to be a little more receptive to it. Most of us honestly post to help people, not to be "know it alls". We only have you and your snakes wellfare in mind so please at least give the advice some consideration. Most people are not going to be making it up when they tell you your snake is in danger. If you don't want to take the advice of just one person than at least create a post about the subject so others can give a point of view also. I'd actually encourage you to get second, and third opinions.

To me, the comment just didnt seem fair, but then life is never fair.

And it wasn't fair for the snake either. :shrugs:

I do applaud nightmare for putting her down instead of bringing her home and prolonging her pain with attempted home remedies. I know that is a very hard thing to do.

i think everyone is just trying to give good sound advise here and i am sure nightmare is taking it all in. She really did well under the circumstances and we all know how gutted she must be (even if we haven't experieced losing a snake).

The problem with tying is, sometimes we can sound like we are nagging instead of offering advise.

good luck nightmare and i hope next time you breed it will be at a better time for you, (not being forced into it with a snake that is already gravid).

keep your chin up

Isobel
