Eventually, (and it's happening already) the numbers of snakes of any size will dwindle. Too bad too, as rattlesnakes have their place as rodent disposal just like their non-poisonous cousins. Look what happened in Australia after they killed off large numbers of the snake population......rodent overpopulation.

Just gotta set you a little bit straight here. I'm an Aussie and know a little about this topic. The issue with rodent plagues in Australia is more to do with the fact they were introduced about 220 years ago and never had a very effective predator. When foxes were introduced (as a clever way to reduce the booming rabbit population -which were themselves introduced as sport for hunting but then took off because they had no natural predators -hence introducing the foxes....) the foxes found it was much easier to hunt down our small marsupials which had never really suffered from a predator as effective as the fox so...booming rabbits, booming foxes, fetile land-great farming-opportunity for mice to take hold...suffering marsupials (not rodents) is the simplified version of how it all happened.....

Just like how the cane toad was introduced to control beetles that were eating the sugar cane (which fly and don't live on the ground) and then they boomed...They didn't think too much about environmental outcomes back then...
