I just went back upstairs to look at her and now her mouth is closed with no swelling at all!!!! Maybe she was trying to hiss at me and get triangle head and I've just never seen her do that before????
I feel like I'm losing my mind! I'm totally confused.
I did have to chase her around quite a bit before I caught her, which was unusual...maybe I did scare her??? In the other pix (which came out blurry, her head looks triangle...
I don't know. I don't think it would hurt to have to have the vet do a once over again on her. I am glad that she looks normal now but I don't like the way that she looks in those pictures. It would make me nervous to.
here's the blurry pic where her head looks to be in a wider triangle.
I've been all over the Internet looking at puffed corn snake throat q & a's, but haven't seen anyone verify that corns can indeed puff their throats when upset.
I hate to stress her if that's what I did, but I'm going to get her out again later. And this time I won't just grab her from her sleep in her hide.
Okay, I feel like an idiot but hey, the timing with her mouth issue couldn't have been more perfect...gray hairs indeed!
Cassandra is fine. No puffed neck or open mouth.
So apparently when I went in to get her (for her chapstick treatment) she was fast asleep in her main hide. Looking back on it, I didn't get a good grip on her so she made a run for it. I can see why she showed a side of her that I'd never seen before. The scared/defensive/ticked off, triangle head, and "The Puffed Throat Technique".
I searched all over the Internet and didn't find too many posts about corn snakes exhibiting this behavior. However, as seen in my pix...they do!
