Coming Soon to my Backyard. Part Deux.

Sorry, but now I'm trying to picture what exactly a vizsladoodle would look like! Hmmm......

Now that's just plain wrong! Although as standard poodles can make good rough shooting and water-retrieving dogs you may be on to something...

You know, I have a friend that has a brown female standard poodle, we had discussed it once. If she was a working dog and not just a pet, we might have actually done it.

As a teenager one of my prized posessions was a rabbit's foot hunted by one of my sister's boyfriends who went shooting with his black standard poodle. I so wanted him for a brother-in-law!

I would love to get a poodle from working lines, but they are so hard to find. Not many people run them on birds anymore.

I met 2 working cockers last month! I didn't know what they were, and asked the owner what the fantastically athletic little dogs were. I wish I'd had my camera. They'd been sourced by her husband (a gamekeeper) from an estate in Scotland, on a 2 year waiting list.

Very cute!

But I think a vizoodle (that is what I would call them - or maybe a pooviz?) would be cute, too!

Oh, I think the field bred English cockers are just the most beautiful little dogs... my mix kind of looks like one, maybe that's why.

Then again, I always prefer the working version of any breed...

Hey, you guys ever seen the wire haired Vizslas? My boyfriend's obsessed with wire haired gun dogs....

I have never seen a working cocker in person, but heard they are great little dogs.

I really looked into the WHV and almost put a deposit on one a year ago, but at the time didn't have the time or space for another dog, especially a new puppy at that time.

And, I have a DD, that is a "kennel dog". Right now I am actually trying to find him a good working home.

I really didn't know what they were, and hesitated to ask if they were a mix. I've only ever met pet type cockers before. Rosie loved running with them, but then running's what she does best!

Oh YES! My boyfriend is particularly obsessed with the GWP, so I have read about the DD's before.

Beautiful dogs.

Aaargh, NO!!!

Hey Brent, Have you ordered an E-collar yet? I have both of these:
They are both great for mild mannered dogs.
Bass Pro Shop?! Seriously?! You're not my friend anymore. Cabela's is the ONLY store to buy hunting supplies from. THE ONLY STORE! ;)

Only pictures. Not too impressed by their looks is all. I don't like the wiry haired stuff.

I have never seen a working cocker in person,
Eddie Murphy has! :dgrin:

I do not speak in absolutes in a situation like this, so I will reply by saying that Cabelas is a great store, and I actually like it better than BPS, I just grabbed a BPS link to show you the model of electronic collar I use to shock the crap out of my dogs with.

Oh. Oops. Sorry! Do you know if the collar is adjustable or comes in an XXSM?? :sidestep:

You know, every time I see the picture of that bitch, I think "damn shes good looking". I cannot wait to see pics of your dog once you get him and he gets some size on him.

KJ will correct me if I spell it wrong, but I think you should name him "Boudain" or "Gumbo".

Gumbo is a goofy sounding (Dumbo) name like you'd give to a dog from the east coast. Like New Hampshire or Vermont area . . .

Boudain? How do you pronounce it?

Right now I'm leaning towards Duke or Odin, but don't have anything that I really really like yet. I'm kind of a "dog picks his name" kinda guy, so just playing with a list of names right now.
