Controversial Topic: Handling Health Problems

I'm curious how the heck you even GOT baytril to self medicate. Before my vet ran off to another state I begged and begged her to give me a larger quantity of the stuff in case I needed it. I was denied.

I'm also looking forward to reading about how to get access to medications to treat one's "livestock."

In the meantime, I was most impressed by the rusty box cutter blade myself. :)

Very interesting, honest thread.

All I can add is that having kids in the same house as a "pet" of any sort immediately muddies the water that I may have waded in prior.

I have taken our critters to the vet knowing in advance they were not going to know anymore than myself about how to handle the situation...but I felt like I had to show our boys that when there is something you cannot resolve you have to reach out to helo the animal...then you have to know when you need to let them go and not be selfish.

I am not being arrogant just realistic. We have been to 4 different vets, from a 20 minute round trip to a 2&1/2 hour round trip. I have found more helpful safe advice here than from any of them...ie. the vet that showed me how to 'administer the meds into the snakes esophagus'...yep you guessed it...when I posted wanting to know why the meds kept coming out hie eyes, nose and made him bubble it was pointed out that the orifice in the front of the mouth of a snake is actually the TRACHEA.

I can only say that I am forever grateful our snake passed away literally with our backs turned...no horrible decisions.

I could go on but most of what is left to say has already been said.
