Davids Video Thread

and I change and change and nothing ever stops people from making fun of me.

I wonder, do you at least have a couple close friends who accept you for who you are. You shouldn't have to forsake who you are to make people like you. Kids can be cruel, unfortunately.

I really don't know why people don't like. I mean I have some freinds I don't fit in in the schools that I have been in. Most of my friends live in other school. I have had a good social life OUT of school freinds, girlfreinds, and things. the place I spend most of my time I have 1 sorta freind. It is a very hard life I leed and people calling my husbandry abusive makes it worse

David, yes we were all 15 once. I understand that completely! Trust me I do! I may have sounded very harsh in my post but I just can not abide people using their past as a reason for their attitudes. You were bullied in school, yes? Your father has shunned you, yes? Okay. But it seems that you have taken all of those situations and then turned them on people who only seek to help you out. Think about this for a second, okay? My 3 year old son and 2 year old daughter were both raped by a 15 year old boy. Yet, I don't hold that against YOU, do I? I have given birth to 2 dead babies. I don't hold that against mother's that are able to have lots of kids, do I? No, I don't because none of the people here have wronged me. Yet, you almost treat everyone here like they are out to get you simply because of what others in your past(and maybe present) have done to you. When people offer you advice because they truly care about these animals, don't automatically assume it is an attempt to bully YOU! And sure, anybody is going to get defensive when you accuse someone who has been in the reptile business for soooo much longer of being negligent. Hell, you wanna know how long I've been keeping reptiles? Ummmm, it'll be 2 months this weekend. I would never dream of claiming I know everything there is to know. And yes I did make lots of mistakes when I started out. But as soon as I was told of the mistakes I was making I did everything I could to rectify them. I didn't get angry or defensive. Why? Because I understood that these peope could probably care less about me as an individual and more about the care of my animals. And, hey! I think that's pretty frickin' great!

David, you don't change, you just try to put a spin on things......
Are you going to blame everything that doesn't work out for you, on a rough childhood...
Thats just being in denial.....
It's time for you to shape up, the videos are giving you a bad name. Take them all down and wait a few years until you have a handle on what is required for an educational video.....
As for fitting in on here...... I don't know what to advise...... I post Morelia pics, and get very few responses.... Why? is it because I don't fit in? Or is it because they are rubbish pics? or is it because it's a cornsnake site? I'll blame it on not fitting in, though I suspect it has more to do with the pics and the subjects..... But that doesn't matter because I am now going to get abusive.... Then I'll get replies......
See the pattern emerging.....
Settle back a bit and stop trying to impress people.....
Or is it........ You've been doing your home work for us......
Davids homework
That may make more sense..... If so.... Well done Dave.... Whew you had us going there....

David. There have SO many people on here trying to help you with your husbandry and giving you advice on your videos and yet all you do is get defensive and start calling names.
Then you throw your past into why you are acting out. That son, is a copout. You don't treat people with disrespect and namecalling because of how you were treated in the past. That's just a BS copout answer as to why your antisocial and try way to hard to be on of the "big boys" with his snakes.
You have to take the advice you've been given OVER and OVER again, and truly CHANGE your husbandry skills and stop making video's until your older with more experience and have better video equipment.
No one here is bashing you David. What they are trying to do is help you with your reptiles because they are passionate about them and want to see only the best done with yours.
As far as your cage, I saw a dry water bowl and another bowl with bedding in it. I didn't see ANY water in it whatsoever. Please tell me you did rectify it after taking those pics.

It's time for you to STOP trying to act
like a pro in snake keeping, and be able to admit your a novice at best. Trust me I've been keeping snakes for about 5 years or so and I learn something new almost every time I come here. And I know I will continue to learn for many, many years to come.
Please take to heart that we don't hate you David, we are just trying to help you do the best for your beloved snakes.

Oh and how come no one has ansewared my cage question yet

First, I see no snake (maybe in the hide) so whats the lock for??? One hide. No water, no heat source, no themomenter with probe and no themostat.

Funny.... I thought this is a good time to use a video.
But na.... no video.

Wow, I went to sleep...and had 3 pages or so of this thread to catch up on!

Heres my opinion on the set-up;
I do see two hides, however, it may be beneficial for you to put in identical hides (they don't have to be complex, I've got plastic plant pots in one of my vivs at the moment) This way, your snake won't have to choose between it's favourite hide and temperature regulation.
A description of how the tank is heated would be beneficial, as we can't see if a thermostat is used etc. Please buy probe thermometers. You need to measure the highest temperature that your snake can reach...they do hide underneath substrate. I don't know if you use a heatmat or if you just use the lamp. Please let us know.
In my opinion, I would use a deeper substrate and if it were me, provide fake plants/vines for extra security when the snake is out and about.

Please take this as advice, and not an attack on your husbandry.

Do I know how that feels? Do you REALLY want to ask a gay guy that? I was KICKED OUT OF MY HOUSE at age 16. I was living out of my car for 2 months, because my parents didn't want me in the house.

"You have to spread some Reputation around before giving it to RobbiesCornField again."

Oh and how come no one has ansewared my cage question yet

I see nothing wrong with your cages-- it is your incredibly rough handling that has consistently appalled me. You sling your snakes around like they are those plush stuffed snakes you give to a 3 year old kid who doesn't know better.

I wonder, do you at least have a couple close friends who accept you for who you are. You shouldn't have to forsake who you are to make people like you. Kids can be cruel, unfortunately.

Yeah, kids are cruel. They were cruel when I was growing up. They were cruel when my parents were growing up. And yet somehow we all survived. In all honestly, adults are pretty much the same way. MOST people seem to grow out of the "bashing to a persons face" type of bashing-- but that doesn't mean the behind your back stuff changes at all.

I've truly lost track of the number of people that I've met who were my friend to my face and talked smack behind my back. But I also don't spend my time whining about it on an internet forum. You move on... grow up... get over it. Life sucks and then, just for fun, you die. Oh well.

Herps appear to be your passion in life. I applaud you for having an interest as a 15 year old outside of "texting on my cell phone," "sleeping," "playing video games," or "going to the mall 2 chill with friends." (All true responses from the 14 and 15 year olds I teach when asked about their hobbies and interests)

But your handling really and truly apalls me. The fact that you are so utterly convinced that EVERYTHING you know in your head is 100% factual is also frightening. I have heard, read and seen glaring errors in the comments you state as facts (i.e. that leucistic Texas rats have black speckles-- when clearly, none of the leucy rats that people post on this forum have any speckles whatsoever). I have watched you mishandle your snakes in a manner that borders on cruelty or mistreatment.

A lot of people on this forum are going out of their way to be nice to you BECAUSE of your age. I think a 15 year old should be old enough to know better, and certainly should be old enough to take criticism and learn from it. You keep doing the same things over and over because you refuse to believe that their might be people who actually know better than you and your un-named "sources" and "friends." As a person who spends their entire day working with 14 and 15 year olds, I know that sometimes you just have to be blunt to cut through the charade.

Your handling sucks, kid.

David, let me say it again, since you evidently missed it the first 5 times...it's NOT THE CAGES...it's the WAY YOU HANDLE your snakes that gets people upset. It's also your BAD INFORMATION.

And really...stop using a bad childhood as an excuse. It's bad form.

I was beaten senseless by my oldman. I was removed from the house because he broke my nose and both cheekbones and fractured the front of my skull because I skipped a couple days of school. I was emancipated at 15 years old, graduated high school with a full time job and an apratment to pay for, and went on to college.

To this day, I can count my real life friends on one hand. To this day, I don't speak to either of my parents, and haven't since I was 25...that's almost 11 years ago.

We have ALL had hardships. BUT we don't use them as a copout to have a bad attitude. That's just baloney.

You constantly ask for advice and help on how to "improve", and people have constantly offered you GOOD advice on how to improve. You don't listen. You haven't changed much. You still get incredibly defensive when someone has a different point of view. You still get aggressive and angry toweards people that try to help you. You still can't take constructive criticism.

So do us all a favor...stop. Stop asking us about your videos. Because if you haven't noticed...there aren't a whole lot of people willing to tell you "good job" for bad videos with bad information...

Is this gonna turn into a panda thread again???? ;););););););)

But seriously...Dave..We understand that you are trying..We understand that you love your snakes and pets and that you want to make a lifelong hobby out of it..That is great..and that is what this forum is all about..Many people here share your passion and love..I myself even hope to make my hobby a career one day..But...With anything in life comes criticism...Artists get criticized for their paintings, Writers for their stories..Directors for their movies..and reptile owners are no different..Everyone has their own way of caring for their pets..You can look on youtube and find probably half a million ways to house and feed a corn snake..Everyone is different...But, it is our sole responsibility to make sure our animals are healthy and happy..As much as I am sure that you are supplying this..There is always room for improvement..

For example..When you feed your snake, dont pick him up..Just set the mouse and and watch him do his thing..You don't need to bring the snake to the camera..Just bring the camera to the snake...Also..Whenever you make a video..Try and write a script beforehand..If you find you want to use certain terms like "brumation" or "a snake in blue phase"...Even if you think you already know what the term means..look it up first and read up on it..Try some practice taping before the actual thing..All this will help you improve your videos, make you appear a little more knowledged and also will keep your pets healthy and happy...

Lastly..As stated by many other members..One should never use the fact of a bad life as a reason for the mistakes one makes...Taking responsibility for your mistakes is the first step to correcting them..We are all human and were all 15 at one point or another..And we all learned from our mistakes and became a little wiser..It's just a part of growing up..And is a great part to being a reptile owner...Because it really feels good when you learn something new..But to learn..you must always keep your mind open...

Best of luck to you...

The thing about this that REALLY bothers me, is that David DROPPED his snake, and as Lori pointed out, a fall like that could cause broken bones and internal injuries.
David's answer to this was that the snake was "fine" and "in quarantine".

David is no vet. And since internal injuries and broken bones are not contagious, why the snake is in quarantine is a mystery to me.
That snake should be seen by a VET.

As far as David's excuse that he's "only" 15....I learned how to be gentle with animals by the time I was 4. If he hasn't learned how to respect animals and the BASIC concept of being gentle with them by now, how in the world can he expect to make animal care a career?

well it is in quarentine without climbing rocks just water and hides. And under close supervision

I hope you have heard what people have been trying to tell you and change how you treat your animals in the future and truly work on being the best pet owner you can and continue to learn and ask for advice.

well it is in quarentine without climbing rocks just water and hides. And under close supervision

So...what are you looking for? What signs are you expecting to see that will indicate an internal injury such as broken ribs or a skull fracture? What signs can you expect to see displayed by a snake with a concussion or soft tissue injury from a fall?

I'm not saying you need to run out and see a vet immediately because I wouldn't either. But I know what to look for...do you?

In quarantine and "under close supervision" doesn't really say a whole lot. Quarantine doesn't do him any good, though it is wise to remove climbing aparatus. You need to know what signs you are actually looking for in order to keep a snake under close supervision. So...share with us what signs you are expecting to see to know if this snake has obtained an injury from that fall...

I will give you a hint...most of the "signs" won't be visible at all, so good luck with the close supervision...

Well if the is a problem I would expect to see twitching, lethargy, limpness, but only time will tell.
