Egg laying boxes

ok, cheers

in one of the vivs, I it be ok to place it over the heat mat???
The heat mat has 4 layers of news paper over it.

Alex

Mybe not completely on the heat mat. Say half on and half off. I'd put the opening on the cooler side. They are pretty smart and she'll pick the best place to lay.

I will thanks. I got one more question, lol.

The little 240G gravid aztec normal has not shed for 11 weeks!!! and she is not showing any signs of shedding yet.
She normaly sheds every 6 weeks.
She also ate 2 medium sized mice 2 days ago (im surprised she could fit them in her with those 5-6 eggs she already has in her.

So my question(s) are that is this normal??? and can you tell me when abouts she should be shedding!

Cheers
Alex

She may not shed prior to laying. I just had 2 Crimsons lay that haven't shed in the longest. Then I just had a Normal het for Amel shed two days ago and laid 18 this morning. All three of them didn't stop eating either. When they are showing signs I usually feed smaller and more often.

ok, thanks.

Mine are pritty active all the time, they are already going in and out the the egg laying boxes.

Are there any other signs besides shedding and activity that a snake is going to lay???

Alex

Most of the time they will refuse food when getting close but rules are made to be broken.

Oh right, ok.

Well I will keep you updated on anything that happands.

Thanks for all the advice Dand and Clint. :D

Alex

OK, well the little aztec normal has been in the egg laying container for the last 20 hours and has not moved. But she has had a nice crap in the container which smelt a bit, but thats out of there now.
Do you think she is just in there because she likes it as a normal hide or do u think she is in there for breeding perperces (sp?).

The bigger gravid female is just in her normal hide.

Alex

She is probably there to lay. Going from being very active to just sitting in the box is a good sign there will be eggs soon.

Cool, can you tell how long till she lays, about???

(sry for all the stupid questions, but I just really want to get this right)

Alex

Could be today or a few days. It'll all depend on how far along she is. Do you know when the mating happened? If you figure about 40 days (+or-) later they'll lay.

Then I guess you get to have Christmas in May and July. In May waiting for the eggs to be laid and July for them to hatch. Welcome to the world of breeding corn snakes.:crazy02:

LOL, sounds GREAT :santa:

Are you on msn or aol by any chance. If so, could you please om me ur addy.

Cheers
Alex

Hows it all going with the females? My reverse okeetee had a her prelay shed yesterday and has gone totally off food and is just sitting in her nesting box now so hoepfully not too long now! Around 5-10days I've been told:D

Rach

Cool. Mine arnt going to great. They should of laid about a month ago, but they are both begining to go into shed again, so mabey this is the real pre-lay shed.

Alex

Any eggs yet? My female died just before laying, she'd contracted parasites somewhere along the line, originally thought they were from my males which had gotten them through the previous owner not keeping them properly etc but it was another strain of parasite, causing her salmonella levels to rise blah blah blah so that sucked, tried to retrieve the eggs and incubated anyway but they never came to anything so that's this years plans down the drain. Try again next year.
