Everyone's first Snake bite

Just wondered about everyone's first experience at getting bit:)

I was at my dad's today and i got my dad's snake out and he just flew at me like a lighting bolt and bit me it did not hurt as he's only a tiny corn snake but frightened the life out of me :grin01:

Don't know who seemed more scared lol he was so fast i went oh you fu@~er :grin01:

Once i had hold of him though he was brilliant and as nice as pie but i did find out later from my dad it was feeding day and he did look a bit hungry:)

haha.. welcome to the club.. sadly my bite was from a big boa.. and damn to those bites ever bleeeed!

I had a northern watersnake when I was a kid. It was completely docile and was blind in one eye. One day I was letting it crawl in the grass and it came up to me with it's bad eye toward me. I grabbed it and it swung around and bit my wrist and took off. I chased it down and made sure it could see me and picked it up again and it was fine.

I really can't remember! I've been bit hundreds of times since I was a kid, out catching Garter Snakes at every opportunity. It sure teaches you how to catch a snake properly! Then there's always the moment when you decide it's settled down enough to let the head go free. Usually they don't bite after the first few minutes. My latest bite was last Saturday, a wild caught and released baby black racer. He couldn't even penetrate the skin of my thumb.

My daughter, OTOH, got a nice snake bite while in secondary school from a bigpython named Jill. She still has the scars on her upper arm. But it wasn't Jill's fault- so no hard feelings. Daughter didn't grow up to be traumatized or afraid of herps or anything- far from it!!

It is very startling, though, but if they keep striking, loses the fear factor.

The first rule of bite club is that you TALK about bite club...

The second rule of bite club is that you provide photographic evidence, especially if there is blood involved... :grin01:

What is it about bites and taking pictures of them?

My first bite was probably from a ball python. I get bit so often now, mainly by hatchlings, cave dwellers, and a crazy mexican black king.

wow! your snakes are psychotic he he

Ive only been bit twice... once by each snake.
and it was my own fault ...i was trying to pick Missy up too soon after feeding.
and my second bite was feeding time again but this time the snake struck the mouse and let go , so i was gonna pick up the mouse with tongs and let him strike again and wham .... but both bites they let go right away

and there was only very small marks. not picture worthy

This is my only "real" snake bite. I was handling my amel Bobo after handling mice... not a smart idea! I forgot to wash my hands afterwards and he got a little hungry. He swallowed my pinky all the way up to the last knuckle. It was pretty darn funny, hurt a little bit, and took nearly 10 minutes to get him off. The other bites I've gotten have been from my normal and my opal. Neither one hung on though, just quick bite and release bites.

Mine was about 2 weeks ago. Moving my corn from his feeding box to his tank. Bad idea! lol. I didn't even see him coming, I just flinched after feeling a bump, and saw two tiny marks, that looked like I stapled myself. Didn't hurt, or bleed much, but I bet they will when he's older.

The first time I ever reached for Sev in his viv, he bit me. When I picked him up to handle him later on, he bit me a zillion times. He actually broke skin, and he's just a baby.

My ratsnake has bien me and drawn blood, but I forgot to get a picture  last night I got bit by my baby pacman frog, he hung on like a bulldog because I touched a mealworm to make it wriggle for him!

My first snakebite was from Connor. He's bitten me 3 times. But he's so small you barely notice when he bites... my "REAL" snakebite ( :grin01: ) was from a California Kingsnake. It hung on to my finger for at least five minutes and constricted my whole hand and arm.

Well, I have been a snake owner for a year now and have never been bit... (hope Murphy doesn't read this post...lol)

I should mention that I haven't had any hatchlings yet and my new 6month old corn (smallest I have had) is super laid back...

All this is about to change though...I am getting three hatchlings in Jan/Feb...chances are at least one of them will be a biter... :grin01:

My first bite was years ago from a royal, years back ... I was surprised how little it hurt, but I did get a fright.

Carol, my normally very placid motley girl taught me a lesson last week - that lesson is wash your hands after playing with pet mice:

as a kid (age 8 or so) a brown house snake bit me (while i was running with it in my hand to see a frog in the swimming pool, haha)
i was more surprised than anything tho

and months ago my snake bit my finger, i was feeding him, an after his 1st mouse he tried to escape, so (without washing my hands) i tried to prod him back into his feed box, and *munch* he tagged my finger. but he was still small then, all i had was a tiny red dot, like a pin prick...

as he's getting bigger he's getting faster at striking :p should be interesting when he's bigger, haha

My corns have struck a couple times but never latched on. Female black pinesnake used to hiss for hours and would strike if given the chance.
As a hatchling she could barely draw blood through a pair of cloth gardening gloves. She's better now but still acts up now and then.
strike

my first bite was from Aidan. he was a feisty one...i'd warn my friends to beware of Aidan's Fury. i'd go to move him from his viv to his feeding tub and he'd immediately be in strike position. everytime. he still does it every once in awhile. but he hasnt successfully tagged me in awhile. which is good...he's not a baby anymore. he could probably draw blood now.

my worst bite so far was just yesterday while feeding Kaos, my BRB. i had him in the feeding tub and was feeding him a mouse with tongs. like an idiot, my other hand was resting on the edge of the tub. he went to strike at the mouse and his head veered right and he got me right below my thumb. that hurt and bled a lot. he's got some serious teeth for a little boa. the tub is about 12 inches tall...i didnt think he'd be able to strike that high. i had the mouse near the floor of the tub by his head. i guess he thought my hand was tastier. he was looking at the mouse, then he just turned and struck. lesson learned....BRBs can strike pretty high. and anything that moves just a little bit is food. he let go pretty quick though.

I have not been bitten by any of the snakes I own ...

I have been bitten by garter snakes and Norther water snakes .... those bites bled like crazy with mild swelling ... bit it didn't hurt ...

I can only assume its a matter of time before I get tagged by one of my snakes ... I just hope it wont be one of the Boas .. :crazy02:
