Everyone's first Snake bite

I have not been bitten by any of the snakes I own ...

I have been bitten by garter snakes and Norther water snakes .... those bites bled like crazy with mild swelling ... bit it didn't hurt ...

I can only assume its a matter of time before I get tagged by one of my snakes ... I just hope it wont be one of the Boas .. :crazy02:

oooh... I want Pictures of the damage when the Boas get ya! :grin01:

With not quite a year of owning snakes under my belt I have been pretty lucky. My one and only bite was from my female trans-pecos ratsnake. I had her outside for a photo shoot and she shot out of the tree branch. I caught her before she hit the ground, but I think the way I caught her was what set her off...she turned around and tagged my thumb once. Didn't hold on, didn't even break the skin...but it did startle me.
My Cali. King has struck at me numerous times but has never actually bit me, and a few of my new hatchling corns have head butted me a few times, but that is it so far.

sorry man no pics...the wound is barely even visible now anyway....i just remember yelling at Kaos "not me! the mouse the mouse!" and he let go and turned around and grabbed the mouse and started to constrict it. :grin01:

Where's the wood??????? I've owned my two for five years or almost that and never been tagged..... knocking crazy on the wood :)

I think my first bite was form my yellow ratsnake. She was wrapped around my arm and I fed her a fuzzy that was left from another snake. I was talking with my B/fr meanwhile and did not pay attention when I wanted to relocate her; dang! Of course my hand smelt like mouse and my thumb looked like another fuzzy coming  She did not let go so I rum some water over her head, meanwhile she was making those eating movements so I had some nice little toothholes bleeding on my thumb. No pics unfortunately....

My latest addition, the blue mot male '06 really is a bastard; handled about 20 time sI think but still head butting against the sides of his tub when my hand comes close to it and always ready to strike when he is alert and I want to pick him up. He keeps rattling even a couple of mins after being in my hands. And when I move to fast, dang, bite! He even drew blood lately!

I was bitten by an '01 ball python in '03 because I picked it up out of its feeding container too soon. That was the one bite I've ever received from a snake, aside from a hatchling corn snake at a pet shop.

 :roflmao:

I'm sorry, but I couldn't help but laugh at a few and then empathize... *G*

I've been bit numerous times but the first time stands out in my mind because both Tim and I got bit by the same snake within seconds. We'd just picked up the fiesty little male snow from the Fedex office and Tim had wanted to hold him so he reached in to grab the little thing and snap - Tim draws his hand back and complains that he got bit.

I laughed and then tried to show that I knew what I was doing. I reached in grabbed the snake and wham... he bit me, I flinched, and he learned how to fly. The poor guy got tossed about 2ft up in the air and luckily I caught him on the way down. Needless to say he's never bitten either of us since then! :grin01: Taught him not to bite! lol

The worst bite I have gotten is a tie between 3 critters, our anery thing female, the evil rootbeer, and the male abbott's okeetee that we've got. All three have drawn blood. Unforunately we've don't have any pictures because Tim's never quick enough with the camera when my flesh is at stake! lol

Saw a guy stabbing the ground with a shovel, chasing a big Garter (3-4ft). I run up hollering stop, stop. He says get rid of it or I'll kill it, so I go pick up one pissed off Garter, she tagged me good. I am bleeding like a stug pig and the guy is laughing, if he wasn't my parent's neighbor I would have tossed him the snake! I talked to him about the garden of large rocks he had near the lake and that he would continue to get snakes and how they would keep the rodents away from his house. I promised to quit shooting squirels on my parents place and he promised to quit killing snakes. It hurt like crazy but it was worth it.

Peace Paul

You are not better than the other guy shooting, squirrels :flames:

I only have one snake that's bitten me, and he's bitten me many, many, times.

Oh, and he chews.

I'm driving him over to his new home this afternoon! :dancer:

This was the bite he gave me the day he arrived.

Holy cow, Mary-Beth, that looks nasty!! I'd be introducing him to Mr. Kingsnake :)

Hopefully, he'll like his new home at least a wee bit better :)

First time i got bit was by an adder when i was 3, i had to go into hospital and and get all that anti venom stuff and my leg went a funny colour, sadly i have no pictures and i don't really remebmber it happening, but i was messing around on our rock pile out the back and i guess i must have disturbed one and it bit me. I had a huuge fear of snakes for years after that but i have recently grown an enthusiasm for them and now have my corn snake and i wonder why i was ever scared!

Lol, A long time ago I had a python that would strike but miss, but even so I had developed some pretty good reflexes when he would get that "look". Didn't save me when it came to my kings though. I was taking pics of some of my corns and my roomates gecko and even washed my hands, but must have missed a spot between my fingers since that's right where she headed. Her tongue was flicking like crazy until she zeroed in on that little soft spot, and nailed me. It didn't hurt, but itched like crazy the rest of the night. My male king got me when I was putting him back in his viv. He started to tighten around my hand as usual when I put him back, and he latched on to the tip of my thumb. I guess he didn't like the nail so he let go pretty quick but wouldn't relax his grip. He flattened his head and would strike at the hand that I wanted to use to unwrap him off the other one.... I ended up just distracting him with it while I shook him off...

I am no longer a snake bite virgin! One of Cheryl's big bad pastel ball python hatchlings gave me a quick nip tonight to draw blood - WOO! (Must have been hanging out with Trevor too much.... :sidestep: )

Oh and I have a ton of scratches after handling the two black rough necked monitors (no worries! much hand washing before and after handling everything at Cheryl's house!). =)

I'm baptized to bites! Yay!
