Florida King fans!

Your an enabler....yeah thats right! I have had my eye on a FL. king for a few months and thanks to your thread looks like I am breaking down and getting one!

Man I'm telling you I've seen the future and it's Florida Kings, lol. There are some really exciting new morphs already starting to change the parameters of the Florida Kings and the Eastern Kings as well.

David, I'd have to check with Tara but I think our guy is a hypo. They are to my knowlege brighter than the more typical color pattern. He is certainly bright, with lots of oranges.

One other thing I like about him is that, unlike the Cali Kings I've kept, he is an EATER. He eats without fail unless he is in blue. Everyone says kings are garbage disposals, but my experience with Cali's has not been so. But the Florida really is.

I had one, very large and not easy to handle but very active and nice as a display snake. It was not even afraid of the cat pawing the viv.

I have coveted FL kings ever since I saw pictures of Nanci's. I know I will break down at some point and get one.

On the trashcan factor, maybe it depends on the snake? Benchley has been very reliable as a trashcan eater, even in deepest blue and totally blind.

Yeah it depends on the individual. Some can be as tame as a puppy and some can be quite a handfull. Here is a good tip. Temperment is usually passed down in any snake. If you are concerned about it being tame then ask about the parents before you buy one. I have some that are so calm and laid back. Then there are a couple that are nervous and twitch their tail and just don't like to be held. Ask about the parents temperment.

Mine used to strangle a already dead mouse with tree windings of its thick body, completely hiding it within. I was always surprised the body is that flexible, since they are quite sturdy snakes compared to corns.

We recently got a pretty little brooks. We haven;t gotten many good pictures yet because she is too grumpy. She has only struck once though, and that was through her feeding tank. Usually she is flighty and smelly but curious.

She is not living up to her reputation for being a garbage disposal. She finally ate again after a month but she is just a weirdo. I watched her inspect a mouse, snuggle next to it, and crawl under it before deciding it wasn't up to her standards.

She seems much more observant than the cornsnake which is kind of neat. She will stare you down and follow your movement which is just too much trouble for the corn to be bothered with.

Aw, the server ate all our Florida King discussion!

Here's a little example of how ravenous they are. I fed Big Jake (clean-up, not his regular meal, that was on Saturday) Monday night. So Tuesday night I was straightening out the pile of snake boxes/shipping supplies/etc. that was sitting on my couch. There were two big sheets of fiberglass insulation in plastic that Gourmet Rodent packs their mice in, that I was saving to wrap glass vivs in, in the winter, but hadn't put away yet. So I picked them up and shook them to straighten them out, (like sheets) before folding, and Jake came shooting out of his hide and struck the side of his viv repeatedly!! (He's on a kitchen counter that is open to the living room, that the couch is up against...) I know they say snakes don't have the best eyesight, but the FKs seem to be VERY visually-oriented to me. In terms of movement, anyway. I guess they aren't too discriminating.

If it moves, they bite, then they'll see what it is :) My speckled king is a bit like that too but the Florida I used to have really beat it at that!

Woe! It must have been a virtual tornado! It took my chain Kings with it, lol. Oh well, here they are again :) .

These guys are closely related to the Florida Kings and they even interbreed where their boundaries overlap. Quite honestly They are virtually the same except for very minor differences, mostly patterns and colors.
