HATERS ON SNAKES !

Oh yes, many Christian people don't like her because of the story in the Bible. I am not religious and I will not bash anyone who is, just please don't judge them because of something in a religious text. I get very defensive, as I have pet rats too.

I am a Christian, and I have snakes, I look at it this way. If God did not have a reason for these animals to be here, he would have wiped them out long ago.

you can say that about alot of illegal things :)

Babies are not born with fear from snakes. perhaps because they are unaware if they area dangerous, but most grow to fear them. I did too, but knew a corn couldn't do anything :) so I faced it, and couldn't even touch it the first day! crazy to think about it....

Haha definitely!! When I took my rats out to the park, all of the kids loved them!! The adults stood no closer than 15 feet. I haven't had Estelle for a summer yet, can't wait to let people meet her!

MY friend just almost killed my corn snake cuz it was tooo close to her ( other side of the room) [/COLOR]

This has me puzzled...So your friend is in your room and tries to kill your snake? How? Are you still friends with this person? That is insane. Don't abuse yourself with such narrow minded individuals, find some friends who can respect life and the choices you make.

Haven't been arounf my friend in a ehile now, always asked me to hang but I'm not having that around me, as sfar as I think those snakes are my babies ! Anybody tries to harm them got to face me !!

I think the whole vertical slits thing that is repeated on many exterminator shows, because indigenous venomous snakes in the US have vertical pupils except for the coral snake. So for the most part, if you live in the US and you come across a snake that has vertical slit pupils in the wild, avoiding it is a good idea. However getting close enough to examine their pupils probably isn't a good idea.

This obviously doesn't work for snakes from other parts of the world. Boas have slits and cobras have round pupils, so it is often the opposite.
North American boas have verticle pupils, too, like Rosy and Rubber boas. So do Lyre snakes, Night snakes, and I believe Shovelnose snakes. Of course, 2 out of 3 of those are rear-fanged snakes, and considered "mildly venomous". Can't hurt you, but they do contain a venom and delivery system...

Not only that...if you are close enough to see the pupil of a venomous snake you aren't familiar with, you're probably too close, and it's too late, anyhow...

Billy the Exterminator doesn't know the difference between a Copperhead and a Cornsnake, though, so trusting him on ID for anything is probably not a good idea...

Dont forget about the story of Moses when He had to make the pole with the SNAKES on it and those who looked at it were healed of their life threatening illness.

Snakes are not always portrayed as "evil" in the bible like some people like to think. According to the bible the snake was not Satan but rather Satan "possessed" or took the form of a snake. Snakes are not Satan like some wackos think.

I am a Christian Also and I do not think snakes are evil. Its an animal like many others and is also a predator like many other animals, but I do not believe that snakes are evil or possessed by the Devil. I think some people are creaped out by snakes and just take what they can about them and run with it. Even if it means to go as extreme as calling them the devil.

I myself was never particularly scared of snakes, maybe the big ones that you always heard stories (plus too many anaconda movies), But I dont think I was ever really scared of them. I figured that you stay away from snakes they stay away from you. If I saw someone with a snake I admit I wouldn't be the first one in line to pet it, but I geuss I never really thought about having a snake as a pet. It wasn't until I was talking to a guy that had one (Wasn't a Corn BTW) that I even considered it and now I can't wait to get one. BTW I am christian as well and no other christian I KNOW has ever seen snakes as a evil thing.

I was just watching some videos on BPs feeding, it amazes me how many people are so psychotic about these animals. They act like they are the bane of the earth. I read one guy actually called a young bp in a video a "lethal animal" I laughed so hard when I read that.

It's funny because all of the cute kitten videos are super-popular, yet felines are carnivores as well who, IMO, kill their prey much more violently than snakes. Dogs as well. At least snakes don't chew, and ideally blood and guts isn't involved in the eating process...

I used to suffer from a paralyzing fear of snakes, which is the reason I got my first one. I knew that my fear was irrational and unfounded, so I took steps to remove it.

Not only did it go away, I now love snakes! I love Lana like most people love their dogs!

Guess what I'm saying is that there is a lot of ignorance out there and it can't necessarily be blamed on fear. A lot of people are at least smart enough (I was) to know that their fear is totally irrational.

At least I hope it's ignorance. Ignorance can be cured by education, but stupidity is forever...

I read a story once where a girl had brought her BP to have pictures with Santa (I'm so doing that...). But it was for pets. Anyway, the article called the snake " a huge, metre-long python, who eats adult gerbils." Yeah, like 3 feet is big!

* snake haters snakes are interesting and are living to they propably think were discusting

Are you actively looking for posts to be offended in? Also, as an FYI, if you keep up even the ** in the swearing, you're likely to get an infraction for swearing.

I think most of the fear associated with snakes is mostly superstition/lack of knowledge/misinformation. When my workmates found out I had snakes, I was shocked by the kinds of questions the brought up: Isn't that dangerous? Don't they bite? Aren't you worried about it choking you/constricting your arm/etc.? Are they poisonous? What if you have a baby, aren't you afraid it will eat them? Mind you, a lot of these people are well educated, well-meaning, intelligent people!

Since the word got out, I've brought in Emily a couple of times on the weekends when it isn't busy so they can see what she's like. While there are still a couple of people who bolt across the room to get away, a lot of people like to get close and see me handle her, and some will even gently pet her, "Oh, I thought she would be slimy?", "Is she going to bite me??" LOL. Baby steps! :)

It's easy to fear something you've never experienced or been around! A lot of people would probably love snakes if they took the time to learn about them and see what beautiful creatures they are.

I'm lucky my first snake was pink. My mom's favorite color! I got her without my mom knowing at first. I told her when the snake was in the mail. She's always been a snake hater. But when I opened up the box and my mom seen that tiny little pink baby she fell in love with it. Now Sylvara is my mom's snake and she will get mad if anyone says anything bad about snakes lol!
