Just caught that LOL Senior on my way to senile
senior keepers.
Hey so this is a question fairly unrelated to the topic of the post but a question I think may be better answered by more senior keepers. So I play the drum set, I'm a drummer for going on 4 years now. I love the drums, my tastes in music range all across the board in rock. Classic, to metal, to heavy metal, black metal, I mean. Screamo to classic to alternative and everything in between. I love it all. And my drums are in the basement and is fairly muffled by the floor but I can't help but wonder if my playing loudly or say sharp cymbal accents could hurt my snake or its hearing? I don't know how well snakes hear but. Also on occasion I charge my phone in this room. It's my snake/computer room at the moment and being a gamer and all I spend a lot of time here. I have issues charging my phone on the computer so I plug it in on the power strip I'll be sharing with my UTH and such which is right next to my Viv. Could vibration notifications from my phone or as I said before the percussive sounds from my drums affect my snake in any negative way?
If it were my snake, I would ask the person who takes the snake in to take pictures as they open the box and check on the snake's welfare. I know it would be a difficult thing to miss but the good of the animal always comes first in my mind.
On the other hand people have their snakes held at FedEx and drive them home before they get to open the box.
It is really up to you in the end. I'd just prefer my snake safely in the viv with water and a temperature gradient as soon as is humanly possible.
Hmm fair enough but I mean, if FedEx holds it it's not like it'll be in any better conditions than it would be if it were at least in an area where the temperature is regulated. I mean, FedEx holding places are probably not the most comfortable for people let alone snakes, and it is cold out, I live in Kentucky so we're experiencing around freezing temperatures as of late. I just want to make sure there would be no ill effects created from staying in the dark just a little bit longer.
It's not staying in the dark that is a concern. Snakes have no problem with spending a day in the dark. It is unregulated temperature and lack of water. However, it is entirely up to you. This is one of those situations where only you can decide what is best for your snake.
Delivery is guaranteed by 10 am and if I recall it can be as early as 8:30 (I had a snake FedEx'ed to me in November). So say your snake gets there around 9 like mine did. That's an extra 6 hours without access to water and with unregulated temperature (too hot is as bad as too cold, maybe worse) with no chance to get warmer or cooler.
Also if you have a live arrival guarantee, I believe it assumes someone is there and opens the box upon arrival. If you have any questions about that please contact BHB. Ask them your question about the delay.
I just want you to know what you are actually deciding for your snake. Weigh that with your wanting to open the box and I'm sure you'll make the best decision humanly possible. While I'm encouraging you in one direction please know that I respect your right to decide for yourself.
Ps. The hold for pickup areas at FedEx facilities are temp controlled. The packages sit on shelves in a back or side room in what amounts to a store front. I've been to mine that is about 20 to 30 minutes away to pick up, so I know.
