help with my mom

Yes both on one side so you can give your snake a chance to get away from the heat. The +25% means that females are more expensive then the males, so I suggest to get a male :) if your looking for a cheaper price .

What about a milk snake? I don't know much about them, but they're relatively small, so I can't imagine that they'd eat mice....but don't quote me on that!!!

well suddenly my family hates snakes grrrr last night i just told my mom a random fact (i dont even member wut i told her) and she sighed and shook her head i said wut and she wuz like well i dont think your going to get a snake. so now i think i might just get a gecko because i heard rough green snakes are hard for begginers

yup i sure am good at changing my mind im so counfused now im reading that rough green snakes r not that bad. im so counfused. lol krenna u need to tell me bout ur rough green snake now

Hey that's great! Maybe as you teach her more about them when you get it, she'll come around. I was lucky in that my parents didn't mind all the critters I had. Mice, rats, lizards, the works. The only thing I never had was a snake. Mom said I had enough animals, and a snake wasn't a pet. Finally got one as an adult, and both mom and dad think they're pretty neat. The come often to visit their "grandkids".

i mine aswell post again. ok i finally think ima get a snake if i do im gonna get a garder snake thats the only one my mom will aprove on. also we both want to watch it hunt down some fish lol. now i just need a 20g or bigger tank and i think i might get a 30g itll have a lot of room

Haha, I guess my mom is super cool then.

As kids we had painted turtles, numerous kinds of fish, and garter snakes (which always got out). We had crickets to feed the garter snakes. At one point we tried a live pinky, but it was too big for them. I was in 3rd grade at the time, and my teacher had a corn snake (and tarantula) in the classroom. So the cornskae got a snack that day too.

Currently my sister has 2 baby red eared sliders at home, they have freeze dried crickets and meal worms in the fridge. She also doesn't mind my frozen mice in the freezer (in fact I think I left some behind).

Its weird cuz my dad used to be the animal guy but now my sister takes care of all the fish & turtles. My mom has held the snake & turtles many times.

As far as dealing with the mice in the freezer, my current roommate had a problem with it. Though placing the plastic bag inside tupperware made her okay with it.

People seem to expect the worst with more exotic pets, and often after they see what it really involves, they are like "thats not bad at all"

If you have a garter snake, I would think a 10 or 15 gallon tank would be big enough, definetly nothing bigger than 20 gallon (unless you have one laying around).

I don't think mine were very good pets at all, they move pretty fast so they aren't great for handling. Ours also pooped on us & bit sometimes.

Just make sure the tank is super-escape-proof. I have no idea how they got out of ours.

We liked to put feeder fish in the water dish, and they'd go fishing when they wanted a meal.

yea i figure i can have my garder for a while then after a while ill see if i can buy some pinkies to feed it as treats them my mom might get used to the frozen mice and i might be able to get a corn after

nvm im just gunna use bark i dont want the sand to get in the water and stuff i just think it wud be a mess so nvm. and i have a question about heating pads do u put them in the cage under the substrate or out of the cage on the bottom?

It depends....

UTH's all depend on what substrate you are using for thinner things such as repticarpet, newspaper, paper towels and thin layers of aspen or bark (less than 1/2 inch) than on the outside under the tank is fine. If you are using any substrate over 1/2 inch in thickness than you will probably need to put it on the inside making sure that the substrate will completely cover it and the snake wont be able to burrow itself to rest right on top of the mat. This is just from my experience you may get other advice but this is what I have gone by and has worked for me for years.

I use an UTH under the bottom of the tank, and I have more than an inch of substrate on top. I don't think it's safe for the UTH to be inside, and the cord will be in the way as well. They're designed to be attached, UNDER the tank. That's why they're named that :) If you have a burrower, I would still recommend taping some paper towel, or tank mat over the UTH so that they can't lay directly on the glass and get burned. Oh, and I don't think sand is a good choice for snakes. They can get respiratory problems and impaction from ingestion.

ok now i asked my mom if we could go to the pet store (just to look at cages and stuff) and she told me the more she looks into it im probably not going to get a snake. shes scared it gunna get out of its cage, (true story) because my cousin had a boa or somthin it got out and they had to leave there house untill they found it (they have 2 little kids) and so my mom is scared itll get out even though its a little teeny garter. but a very good thing that shud push my luck of gettin a snake up is were goin to my cousins friends reptile show yay that shud change her mind. the show is august first
