I got eggs! Cornsnake eggs and I wasn't prepared...not sure if they are going to surv

I'm not an expert by any means, but to me, I would think they aren't getting enough moisture.

Yeah they look good just a little dehydrated. Add a little water you may want to get a spray bottle that way you are able to wet the substrate and not the eggs. I personally like to keep a paper towel over the eggs that way if the paper towel dries out then you know that the eggs are getting to dry as well. Just add water and they should be fine. The next scary step (at least my first go around) is they are going to swell so bad that you think they are going to pop.

If you have any more of that moss, make a pad of it to sit on top so they are covered. Soak it and then squeeze all the water you can out, once you wring it good it should be the perfect amount of humidity.
Get them out of the coffee can and off the UTH, too much heat can kill eggs or cause deformed babies. If you can. incubate at the low 80's, if not the top of the fridge method does work (just takes a little longer)

I check mine about every 5-7 days give or take. More often if it is about time for them to hatch. I would say put the moss or paper towel on them and give them that day to plump up. Check them after about a day to make sure that they did plump back up and leave them for a few days. You don't want to keep checking them only because that is allowing your moisture to come out and cause the eggs to dehydrate. I know it is really really hard not to. Believe me I know lol :)

Maybe its the pics or my computer but those eggs look kinda yellow to me. Are the bright white or slightly yellow? Going on what I see in the pics I am saying that these eggs may not be fertile. They may of never been fertile. As I said snakes will lay a clutch of infertile eggs from time to time without ever having any contact with a male. But it will not hurt to try and incubate them anyways. Good luck.

Also did you make sure to move them from mom's cage to the incubator the same way they were laid. If the top of them now are not the top of them at laying they may have drowned in there yoke.

They are pretty white in person just a little sunken in. I will go home today after class and make the moss I have sitting on top of them more moist for them. Or go to the dollar store and buy some paper towels.

I checked my FedEx tracking on my incubator order and I should be getting it in the next day or so if not Saturday then probably Monday...I hope the eggs are still good when I get it so I can tranfer them into that and hopefully not have any more worries. I went home after class and took some of the moss that was laying on top of the eggs and sprayed it down really good and squeezed it out and padded it on top of the eggs and around them. I also sprayed all around the enclosure on the sides. So hopefully, that will keep them good until I can get that incubator in. The temps are staying pretty good around 82-84 degrees although it goes down to the upper 70's during the coldest part of the night and stays relatively steady in the lower 80's during the day.

Those temps are great. Keep us posted.

I'm thinking I've only got 2-3 good eggs at this point. The rest of them have pretty much dried up and sunken in really bad. I've moisten all the moss in there and added damp paper towels over the eggs but doesn't seem to have helped any. I'm going to keep trying though. My incubator hasn't been delivered yet. I don't know what is taking them so long. When I checked the status on the tracking it doesn't have an estimated delivery date listed anymore for some reason. And it hasn't updated anything since this past Friday when I checked it, it still says departed from Bloomington,CA on there. So I don't know what is up with that. I'll just keep doing my best.

That maybe the case but don't give up on them just yet. You would be surprised at what kind of eggs some of these snakes hatch out of. I was told "Don't give up until you have to give up."

I'm not giving up I just hope more of them suvive then the three that still look good. I've been trying so hard to keep these eggs good until this incubator gets here but it's taking longer then it said it was on the tracking on FedEX site. I'll keep trying.

I would call Fedex and raise some hell. Tell them that you expected this thing on a specific day and that you have animals depending on i! Maybe if you put a bit of a fire under their butt they may make some calls and get it there sooner then later. If you tell them there are lives depending on it they may try to speed things up, its worth a try.

Don't give up on the eggs until they are yellow and smelly! My surprise clutch looked like this.

all dimpled and dry. After a few weeks though they looked like this.

Plump and juicy :)
16 of the 17 hatched. I did not find the eggs until 2-3 days after she laid them too. So they sat in a dry hide for 2-3 days!! Just give them some time to see if they plump.

Good Luck!!

MotleyCrue, wow that is a huge difference in how they looked from the beginning. Thats amazing they all hatched except for one. I've checked the FedEx site again and now it's saying that the incubator has arrived in Chapaign, IL so maybe if I am very lucky I will have this thing tomorrow since I am in Indiana not to awefully far away from IL. Crossing my fingers I'll get it. I'm going to take some more pics here in a min and will post them up tonight.

Updated shots of Zoe's eggs. Eggs now 6 days old.

I finally got my incubator! But I'm so dissapointed in it. I thought it was going to have temp reader on it so I could actually tell what temp it was at. But it doesn't. It seems pretty cheaply made as well. Didn't really know what to expect it to be like. It also is way bigger then I thought it was going to be. It's a Hover Bator Thermal Air Flow. I don't really understand how to set it up. I got it from LLLReptile.com and it didn't really come with good instructions on how to set it up for reptile eggs. Mostly talked about chick eggs. I'm not sure if I'm supose to put the eggs directly on the wire mess screen or add water in the troughs it has? Not sure if I'm supose to put hatchrite material on top of the wire mesh screen at the bottom of incubator and then put the eggs on top of the hatchrite material or burry them in it a little. I only got one bag 2lb of Hatchrite and with as big as the incubator is I don't think the 2lb bag of hatchrite is going to be enough. Should I use the hatchrite and spagnum moss together? And how on earth am I supose to know what temps it is set at without a reading? It just has a thing on the top of the incubator with increase or decrease...it says counterclockwise for increasing temps and clockwise for decreasing temps but thats it. Any suggestions would be so helpful..Thanks!

I don't use an incubator like that. I just put them in a sterilte container with moss and set them on a shelf. They hatched 70 days later. I did check them every few days keeping them moist but not wet. This year I am going to try the mediumless method someone described on here, but still no extra heat. The room they will be in gets to about 87 during the day and 77 at night in good weather. Though I started early this year, I may need some added heat, we'll see. Good luck!
