Kenyan Sand Boa?

Oh yes, I know that the females weight is important. The sources I've read vary from 200-300 grams for her, so I'll wait until at least 250 grams. My 2010 female is likely to be there within a year(or maybe not), but I don't know if a 2011 male will be ready to mate at that point. I haven't found a whole lot of information about how old the male needs to be. I've watched a few you-tube videos where people put females next to males, it is kinda amazing. I want an Anery female, so I will just have to be patient. It made a lot more sense to buy an anery male.

The stripes are beginning to warm up to me. I do really like that girl. I asked him to pick out the best he had available of each, and I think he did a great job.

I really like how he focuses his breeding program to only have a couple of alleles. I have a lot of genetics background (undergrad in biology) and I have the opinion that I would prefer to see someone working on improving one or two things really well instead of making as many random, not always well thought out, morphs as possible. Though he does have a large list of non-het anery so I have a feeling the "extra" fourth is probably coming from that list. I don't know the gender yet.

I have snakes! I tried to take pictures today but got this instead:

I did take a picture in the window of my stripe so you could all see how gorgeous it is.

I'm really impressed with how gorgeous the stripe is. Pictures on the internet just do not do it justice. I like the normals more in pictures, but man, in person, the stripe wins hand down.

The male anery was blue when I got him. His eyes cleared up this morning, so hopefully he sheds clean soon. I'm interested how his colors will look after shedding, right now he has the expected washed out look.

So, rest of the story that I avoided telling until it got resolved.

My gorgeous stripe individual I posted above and very carefully did not refer to its sex? I ordered a female stripe het anery and received a wonderful male stripe het anery. That leaves me with two wonderful males (the anery and stripe) and one female (normal het anery) which is very difficult to start a breeding program with.

Jason was in a hurry the day he mailed the snakes and didn't double check everything. When I told him about the switch-up he immediately checked his other female stripe het anery and found that it too was missexed and is male. Since he no longer has any female stripes like I ordered, he is sending me a female 2010 stripe anery, which is a more valuable snake and will make a great addition to my breeding program. He is also adding in the freebee that he had mentioned, but forgot to include last time. I forget if he mentioned the sex of the freebee, but if it is female I will be elated. 3 great females and 2 top quality males are a great start.

It will be at least two years before I have anyone big enough for breeding. I already have a friend lining up for babies, which is really exciting.

Since I'm ending up with a few more snakes than planned, and will need room in the future for growing out my own babies, I'm going to build a rack over winter break. These things are dangerously addictive!

Pictures! I finally got the rest of my sand boas in (had more sent due to the one being missexed) and figured I'd shoot everyone today. I've posted them on the sand boa group on facebook, but seeing it was all y'all that convinced me to get them I figured I should post some here too.

2011 Normal girl. Having some shedding issues, I've been soaking her.

2010 Anery stripe female. Very awesome girl, but I need to clean her stripe up with some breeding. When she's ready she'll be breed with the normal stripe boy.

2010 Stripe het anery male. My favorite of the bunch, he is just gorgeous!

2011 Anery male. Very slow to grow, but he gained another gram since his last feeding. His colors are really vibrant and clean, I love them.

2011 Normal het anery girl. Same girl as in the older picture above, she shed again and is BRIGHT now. I'm amazed how much her color changed in a shed.

Dinner!

And - goodbye.

They are all eating great. I ordered an Animal Plastics rack to keep them in, its big enough I can fit them all as adults in it. The rack fits 12 15q tubs or 6 32q tubs. Spoiled snakes!
