Mailing corns?

I'd hoped to never have to ask this, but...

I'm going to be moving in a month and a half, and so far, I've called sixteen different apartment complexes. The only one that allows snakes is way out of my price range, so it looks like I may be adopting Kaven out for a year or so, to a friend of mine in California who keeps corns herself.

My question is: How can I safely ship him? Overnight, of course...it's been around sixty degrees where I am, around eighty out there. How can I send him and be sure he arrives safe, if it comes down to that?

In the meantime, I am frantically looking for a place that will let me keep him, but I want to be prepared.

Thanks for any advice.

My first advise is that snakes don't bark or claw the furniture. I'd move in and don't tell anybody. Don't ask don't tell.

If you don't like that, ship on Fed Ex overnight.

Yeah...my only problem is, I'd never ever expected it to be an issue, so I went and blabbed about him to the place I'm really, really hoping to live in. Now, seventeen calls later, it appears to be a universal Springfield prejudice. And I'm just too much of a pansy to move in with an animal I know I'm not supposed to have.

So fed-ex...how do I pack the box?

My lease says no pets allowed but then later says "no domestic dogs, cats or birds". So I'm risking it right now. Besides, 2 of my roommates have dogs so my little snake is the least of my worries!:shrugs:

I'm a land lord and what I worry about are animals that will do damage to the property. Dog and Cats. Everyone is different, but I bet most land lords would ask you to get rid of it before they would kick out an otherwise good tenant. I know I would.

Well aside from the land lord issue, isn't it uh illegal to fed ex the snake unless you've been certified first?

Not illegal, against company policy. Same is true for UPS. It's illegal to use the post office.

Hate to state the obvious but Exactly.. I can ship lizards, fish and snails through the mail but no darn snakies..

I've had my rental unit DEMOLISHED by a tenant...When I say NO, it means NO and your darn straight I will evict anyone that is inconsiderate to the rules and regulations of my property. If they don't pay attention to a simple rule like that, what makes me believe that they're going to follow the other rules and take care of the property as a good tenant should? I say shame on anyone that tells a person to blatantly ignore the legal agreement between tenant and landlord, it's not only grounds for eviction, it's completely disrespectful. It's not a right to rent, it's a privilege. This is a topic that burns me big time.

Auralay, are there any herpers in your area that are experienced shippers? I would suggest seeing if you can locate someone that can safely ship for you rather then go through all of the FedEx red tape.

I say stop crying you landlords!!!!!! So the new great tenant has a corn snake....
Bet the Crack dealer never tells you what they are doing???

What i'd try is going to view the appartment, then put it to your landlord while your there if snakes are allowed, explain the caged animal - poos once a week in a wooden box aspect hehe, then see what they're like about it,

probably far more likely to say yes if your actually there viewing the place in person, also you could try offering an increased deposit as a sign of goodwill, so if something did go wrong (in the Landlords eyes) then he'd be covered, plus it shows your serious and reasonable.

You can also ship airport to airport via "Delta Dash" and I don't think they require any certification.

Your friend will have to be able to pick it up right away at their local airport.

If the "new great tenant" is violating a rule of the property, they aren't a "great tenant" are they? You would feel very differently if you had a tenant that cost you $5,000 in damages.

Personally, I say no dogs, cats or birds on my property...However, if another landlord has a blanket "no pets" statement, it should be respected otherwise you deserve to have yourself tossed out on your butt.

It's good to know how you feel Mr Blckrat. I say each landlord should decide from himself how to deal with his property and his tenants. And for that matter, each tenant should decide what kind of a person he wants to rent from.
