Music quiz

This is rock, progressive rock.
I saw this band in 1982 a few months after this album was released.
Let me tell you about the drummer. During the whole concert the normal concert missiles were flying about, frisbees, balls, hats. When his drum solo started everything got quiet, all eyes on him. He was surrounded by a big square framework with all manner of percussion hanging around him, none of it for show, he used it all with speed and artistry. When he was finished I felt like he had played a song just like someone with a guitar or clarinet.

I don't think we've covered this genre of music yet; artist and title text has been 'shopped out.

On a personal note: in the midst of divorce, while I wallowed in self-pity, my friends essentially forced me to go see this artist at Milwaukee's famed Summerfest.

By the end of the night, I was dancing on tables. For free. Without the alfluence of incohol. ;)

As a hint, this band played the "house band" of a famous night spot in a movie.

Hint Number Deux (I loves me the self-referential stuff):

Like many musicians of his ilk, this artist worked with Paul Simon in the mid-80s.

Et toi! Le troisième indice!

The aforementioned movie in which this band is the "house band"?

The same movie has a cameo, non-musical appearance by the King of Rock 'n Soul himself, Solomon Burke.

I stumbled upon this group when I was listening to Clutch-related-music.
Their first 2 album are very instrumental with a minimum of vocals.

The band was formed in 1992.
One of the people who formed the band played the lead guitar (and still does)
in a band I've already played here in the quiz.

The lead guitarist, who formed the band together with the guy who does the vocals and plays the bass (still in the band), left the band in 2003.
But in 2007 the band welcomed a new drummer. He plays in the same band the original lead guitarist plays in.

The band's name begins with.. " The "

I'm running out of clues here :)

The band appeared on the compilations cd "The Mighty Desert Rock Avengers"
Record label: MeteorCity

completely instrumental! :)

this album was recorded by two brothers in 2005-07, but released in 2009.
it's the fifth in a 'series' of albums.

though it was recorded by two brothers, the name of the artist is just of one of them.
they're also both part of a somewhat well-known progressive band.
