Sorry for your loss There is nothing you could have done. I think it is safe to assume they aren't able to handle smoke inhalation very well. Even smoking cigarettes around reptiles is very bad for them.

Wow, my deep condolences for you if they did not make it. It's a horrible feeling when your pets are ripped from your lives when they are so much more than pets. They're children and our best friend. I am glad you are safe and hope that your transition of starting over goes well!
I'm so sorry. Don't entirely give up though. As long as your apartment wasn't on fire specifically, they might have escaped the smoke. And they might survive the cold as well. As soon as they'll let you in to your apartment, check on them!
