!!!! My Unexpected EGGS !!!!

It depends upon the temps you incubate at. The lower the temps, the longer the time. Have you candled to see if there is still something in there?

Well yes..... It's not really a candle! A bright flashlight is used, but the technique is called candling. As far as I know, the name for the technique is used world wide.

hey guys.

yes i have candled the egg a few times and there are plenty veins! Nice and pink/redish colours! But i cannot see the shape of a snake or anything in ther?
should i be able to???

Hey Brett! As long as you have seen veins that is a sign of life. I would leave it in till there is no dout it has gone bad. Hopefully you will be rewarded for your patience. :D

Sometimes you can, but other times you can't. I've candled eggs days before they hatch and not been able to detect movement, Of course it they are difficult to see because I never remove them from their clutch or the bedding/vermiculite. I agree with Tim, just let that baby go until there is no doubt one way or the other.
ps) Veins are great news!

Hello Brett

I don't want to be a party pooper, but, when last did you candle the egg.

At 60+ days candelling should reveal solid black non see through eggs.
If at 60+ days you can still basically see through the egg and see veins I fear that very little development has taken place. I sincerely hope that this is not the case.
Perhaps the more knowledgeable members here can advise further or add to what I have said.

Ciao

thanks for the advice guys!
ye i dont suppose its going to do me no harm just leaving the egg in there until we know what the deal is!
When i candle the egg i can see veins on the top half of it but as it gets lower it kind of blacks out, im not sure if thats just the lack of light further down the egg but it kind of thickens out like. its hard to explain!

From what I've gathered by reading here, rarely can you "save" a baby by slitting the egg. If it can't make it out by itself, it generally is either DIE, deformed in some way, or congenitally weak. OTOH, you can harm or kill a baby by trying to assist it before it is ready.

Was reading this thread and just wanted to say that I am so sorry for your loss, of Dizzles, and ... I pray that the remaining egg will hatch for you.

Maybe that blacked out, thicker darkness is your baby snake! I'm terrible at waiting myself, but you should leave it alone. Lower temps for incubation lead to longer incubation times. There's nothing necessarily wrong with an egg that takes longer.

I've still got various body parts crossed. I'm hopeful for you!

Exactly! Well said!

thank you! its good to know that you and your body parts are crossed for me! haha thanks!

I would just wait and see. If it is viable and healthy, it will hatch. If not, then it wasn't meant to be and will eventually go bad. Has it shown any sign of starting to wrinkle as the baby uses up the yolk? I've had eggs dent and others that don't, but if it has started to, that might be a good sign as well.

ok guys! finally got something to tell you about!

I candled the egg a minute ago, and at one end there is a section of the egg that is uncalcified. I was sure that i could see what looked to be a dark line, hmm.....could this be the body of a snake??
I looked a little closer and i saw what looked to be a head......MOVING!
i 100 percent saw movement inside my egg!

I now have a little home ready just in case and out of sheer paranoya i have put elastic bands round the egg box. haha

this may still have a happy ending!
