Hello everyone, I'm new to the forums and corn snakes. I have bought, and read, Kathy and Bill Love's book, "The Comprehensive Owner's Guide to Corn Snakes." But am always looking for more advice and tips.

At a local Reptile show a few weeks ago, I picked up two new snakes. Ofelia and Inigo. According to their respective breeders, Ofelia is a girl, and Inigo is a boy. I've read the ways on how to tell, but I'm to nervous to try that myself just yet.

They've both been eating just fine, but I'm not sure if I'm feeding them the right size, and/or amount. They have been eating pinkies, 2.5 grams, about twice a week. (Only had them since 04/06). Inigo's weight is 19 grams, while Ofelia is 18. Am I doing things right? Any tips?

I originally had them living together, but have since changed my mind, because of everyone's great advice.

Here's where they live:

I have 50 watt "red light" bulbs that go on at 9:30 AM, until about 9:30 at night. When those lights are off, I have under-the-cage heaters, which keep them warm over night.

Here is Ofelia:

Soon after that picture, she pooped on the bed. :(

Inigo:

Can you guys tell me what types these are? I think Ofeila is a Reverse Okeetee, and I'm not sure what Inigo is, but thanks in advance for any help/tips I'm sure you guys will give me. :D

Hi there and welcome to the site!

Gorgeous setups for your new babies, and I am glad you decided not to cohabitate, the snakes will benefit from it in the long and shortrun :)

Both snakes are amelanistic... your girle is a normal amel (she doesn't really qualify as the selectivley bred RO phase as her borders are not wide or white enough) and if your boy has a white belly with no checks then he is an amelanistic motley. If he has belly checks then hes a normal amel or could qualify as the selectivley bred trait "sunglow" as he has lovely vibrant colours and no white :)

As for food I am positive they could each be eating a small fuzzy every 5-6 days. One pink a week is enough to keep them going and alive but not enough to have them growing well. I hope this helps!

Thanks for your welcome!

Inigo (boy) definitely has a white belly. So that makes him Amelanistic Motley, huh? That's pretty cool.

I just fed them today, and they both ate two pinkies each. What's the difference between pinkies and fuzzies? The snakes both weigh about 20g, and I'm not sure how old they are, so it's hard for me to figure out how much they're supposed to eat. Thanks again!
