Oak - '09 Pewter

Jessicat

All Pied Everything
Oak is fresh shed!
About a month ago I was ran over by a bus while I was crossing the street and broke both of my legs. One of my legs has mended pretty well, the other is still pretty bad. I had to have surgery on it and I'm still adjusting to the rod that is now there.

Anyway, the point is I haven't updated pictures of my snakes in awhile because I've been recuperating myself.

I've posted pictures of Oak before, but I want this to be his progression thread, so I am going to post a few old ones to build up to the newer shots I have of him.

Oak is from VMS, this is his baby picture on their website that made me want him. He was nice and dark!

This is the first shed since I've been out of the hospital that I've been able to find right away and go out to have a photoshoot! I had a little bit of trouble juggling everything, there are a few photos that would have been GREAT, except that Oak's NECK is in focus instead of his head.
Oh well, these are still pretty good, and I'm just glad to see him shedding on schedule and pooping well. I'm glad that snake care isn't too intense and that I only have two at the moment. Olive's about to shed as well, she's in deep blue right now. For now, here are the latest pictures of Oak, taken in warm morning sunlight.

Hope you guys liked those! I like my little Pewter, he hasn't even struck at me since his first month here!
It's one of my roommates personal projects to "befriend" him. He's pretty sensitive to energies though. He is very calm with me, but it takes him awhile to get used to people, especially if they are even the slightest bit nervous. I think he's going to grow up into a great snake though, he's getting more and more used to people all the time!

Here's one more little treat. I was out reading a book this morning and this little guy would NOT leave me alone. My macro lens was still out and I was curious, so I snapped a few pictures. Here's my favorite one.

Very nice pewter! I love them (I have a pewter boy, myself) :) Boy, he does have attitude! Look at that triangle head in those pics :O

I am so sorry to hear about your accident! OMGosh, that is terrible. I hope that you heal quickly!

Um, hey you have a spider on your arm in that last pic ^^. Lol jk very nice photoshoot. I'm sorry about that accident that sounds just awful! I've been meaning to get my little Eve out into the grass or some tree branches for a nice photoshoot.

Thanks guys! Yea the accident was pretty terrible. It has definitely been a humbling experience to say the least. I am normally pretty active, but I haven't been able to do as much since this happened. I used to be the one running up the stairs for the joy of it, and now I'm the slowest one to get up there.

:-offtopic , but here's a picture of me 4 days after the accident. I still have a hematoma (an internal bruise, swelling) on this leg. The swelling is going down though!

I just feel lucky that I got hit/ran over where I did (as crazy as that sounds). A little lower and my feet could have been crushed, higher and my knee could have been crushed or I could have been paralyzed. I guess I have to realize that I can't rush the healing process, and that I will be back to normal eventually! It could have been much worse.

Jessica, I seem to remember hearing about someone in your neck of the woods getting run over by a bus about a month or so ago on a local news station here in PDX. I'm guessing it was you. I hope you are able to heal well, quickly and completely, so you can get back to enjoying the simply joy of running up and down steps "just 'cause", again :). Being young helps. When my daughter was in a bad wreck (passenger) a couple of years ago, it surprised me how quickly she healed, including her knee. Even though the ambulance sent her to OHSU because it had the nearest trauma center. OHSU doesn't have the best record for much of anything. Now she just has a big scar on her knee to show for the whole ordeal, which she loves to show off :).

Your pewter baby is beautiful!

The spider, though..... well, that creeps me out :).

Jessicat, I am so glad you are OK & recovering! Oak is a pretty little gray worm! Very nice indeed.

Wow- you are lucky to be alive. Nice pics of Oak! You know- he _does_ look a little lonely, though. I think he needs a little pewter girlfriend! :)

So sorry to hear about your accident, I'm not sure I would be brave enough for outdoor pics in case he got away from you. He sure knows how to flatten his head. Was he one of the pewters from Sean that were het amel?
Get better soon
John

Whoa, that looks painful! What happened to the driver of the bus (I am assuming a city bus?) How could they NOT see you???

Well, I am just glad that you are healing up. What an experience! The only thing I have ever broken was a toe and I thought that hurt! I was crying like a baby.

Too bad both of ours are males. I do have a bloodred het charcoal female. Both of mine are het for hypo so hopefully I will get some hypo pewters in the future :)

That looks like it really hurts! I hope you heal well and can get back to running on the stairs... ( aren't we told not to do that? :D )

Your pewter is growing up nicely!

Oh, Jessica!! I had no idea about the accident. How horrible for you! I'm glad you're getting better. I'll be saying prayers for you. I know recovery always feels as slow as the proverbial molasses in January to the person recovering, even when the medical folks are pleased by the pace.

As for Oak, well, he's just beautiful! I'm one of the people who really like pewters. Pictures like these really make me want to get one ASAP!

Feel better soon - and keep the pictures coming when you can.

!!! I'm sorry about your accident, and am very glad to hear your recovery is progressing. I hope Oak (and Olive, right?) are keeping you good company. Great pics of Oak, too.

Thanks for all the encouragement, guys!

Yea, it was most likley me that you heard about in the news. When I got around to emailing my teachers to let them know what happened to me/ try to work out when I would complete class work, some of them said, "oh my, I read about that in the news but had no idea it happened to one of my students!".

As for the busdriver.. I have no idea. It was a 4J school bus. It was coming from my same dirrection (behind me). I was focused on catching the bus I was going to take to school, which was approaching its stop. I was hurrying through a t-bone intersection where a slow road met the busier road I was walking along, Willamette. There's no way the bus driver didn't see me before I saw the bus. I didn't see the bus until I was already in the middle of the intersection and we were colliding. After the bus ran over my legs I was laying in the street, and a pedestrian helped me, but the bus driver didn't get out of the bus. I didn't even know if the bus had stopped or not, so I asked the pedestrian. She said the bus had stopped. The bus driver was definitely not in my favor though. She said I ran into her and I ended up getting a traffic ticket for "sudden leaving curb". I am trying to fight it, and hopefully things will work out for me. The "investigating officer" came to the hospital I was staying in for physical therapy before I was allowed to return home and personally delivered it to me. It was horrible! I felt like I was being criminalized.

Anyway, ya, I know it seems silly that I miss running up the stairs, but I used to do it every day. Little things like that that you do daily to get your heart rate up can really help you get in shape. Also, I live on a steep hill, and it's really cool to see the progress of being VERY winded when you first run up it to being able to handle it no problem.

Also, thanks for the compliments on Oak! I pretty much got him because I couldn't resist getting a "pair", and as soon as I saw Olive, a Phantom, I knew I HAD to have her. I decided a Pewter would be a fun companion. So, I guess he has a girl already, but I DO think it would be cool if he had John's Anery Pewter as a girlfriend (in my WILDEST DREAMS! :dancer:) hahah.

John, he's only 50%phet Amel, as well as 50%phet Anery. When I got him I wasn't really thinking about breeding opportunities. Maybe, maybe not. He has a long way to go. He's pretty small yet.

So sorry about your accident. It's tragic in so many ways. I didn't even know there was such an offense as sudden leaving curb. Hopefully justice will prevail in the end. Rest up and get better soon.

Oak is just as pretty as I remember. He's really looking good. I'm glad he's calming down for you. I can't wait to see an update on Olive. Love those names btw.

Take care!

Thanks! Yea, I burst out crying when the officer handed me the ticket (even though it was just a traffic ticket.. still), and then looking at it and seeing it wasn't even written in proper English!!! My support group is still cracking up over that one. I think the real "offense" is "pedestrian leaving curb". It sucks though, I was within the crosswalk. Anytime a PERSON gets run over by a BUS it seems like the bus should clearly be at fault. I thought pedestrians always had the right of way and left hand turns need to yield to oncoming "traffic". Apparently not. :awcrap:

But yea, we'll see what happens. Hopefully I will be found 50% or less at fault. If so I can seek compensation. Aka add a few nice morphs to my collection. :dancer:

Anyway, thanks for the compliments on Oak! I named Oak and Olive after streets in Eugene which have been a big part of my life in the past few years. Residences where I've lived or events that have happened on these streets have changed my life in one way or another. Hrm, maybe I need to name my next snake "Willamette". That's the street I got ran over on.. somehow it doesn't seem to carry the same ring though.

I can't wait to see how he turns out after a few more sheds. I need to start feeding this guy on the Munson plan to pack a few more grams on him!

Awesome looking pewters! I'm sorry to hear about your accident and hope you have a very speedy recovery. For some reason I could see the morph named "Willamette" turning out to be a meanie haha. ;) Good luck on the ruling and getting some more friends :)

Awww

Thats a nice Pewter!
I hope you get better soon, keep working the muscles around the break. I know how it feels to break bones. At least your young enough that you should recover faster.Seems like my arm isnt much better then when it happened. I am forced to work as much as I can to make ends meet (barely).I know that with Gods help things will work out. I cant do this on my own. Hope all works out for you sounds like the bus driver is trying to get out of trouble with a good lawyer that wont happen.

Stephen, I think our accidents happened around a similar time. I came onto the forums every once in awhile when I was in the hospital for something to do, but I was generally too out of it to post. I do remember reading about your arm back then though.
I can't imagine you trying to do all that work and care for all of your snakes with a broken arm! That must be really debilitating. At the time of my accident I was only caring for two snakes, and I was pretty thankful for that. Thanks for the wishes well! Hope you recover as well!
