pair bonding?

Do a search in the DIY forum to see some of the homemade racks people here have built. They can be really quite beautiful, and great display tanks. It seems like you mean well, but you really need to do some research on corns. Especially if you want to get the closest to what's "natural" for them.

I agree with Jessicat on that. I think she means well but she doesn't have a full understanding of the needs a captive cornsnake has, as well as what they don't need.

I think that it'd be best for her to read up and get some information on different types of setups, heating and lighting, etc. But, if she chooses not to do that, there's not much we can do besides hope that someday she'll take the time to understand.

i do have 3 in the same tank also and i understand were you are all coming from i am working on separating them because i know it is a very very very bad idea to keep them together much longer for now i have gotten a kritter keeper for each snake and intend to put them all in there own one during the breeding season to prevent egg and breeding issues. sadly my roommate doen't want to even hear suggestions about a rack but i'm working on her as we speak and plan on buying a few stackable tanks as soon as i have her consent
as for the basking lights the tank is only at 74* on the hot side, and the bulb is a 13 wat .2 full spectrum bulb the other bulb is a 25 wat exo terra night bulb simply to give them some light
Gwen is a bearded dragon
the snakes are on sanichips

asked the vet

i asked my rep vet about my corns and he said they should be fine together for the next few months until i have the money for new cages.
thank god.

Why don't you try clear rubbermaid bins until you can get tanks? They are clear so you can still see the snakes and they come pretty big to give them enough room. You can still put an uth on them and just make sure to put air holes. And if you pay half the rent and you put them in bins what is she going to do besides yell, as long as you keep them on your side of the room she'll get over it.

What is so bad about a snake rack? It's just a bookcase for reptiles. Let your roommate talk so some of us someday, we'll help work to sort out her snake issues.

Baby snakes are more likely to cannibalize than adults are. Then once they are old enough they can breed which is a whole other mess to deal with. Plus even if the females were not too young to breed it would be very stressful for them to have to lay their eggs with other snakes around. They should have a nice quiet dark place to lay their eggs in peace.

Racks are not bad. I don't really like the little boxes all on a rack with not much in them. I can see your point if you mean those kind of racks. Though corns can seem pretty happy with that as they just like anything small dark and quite to hide in. But you can make your rack as big and fancy as you want. I plan on getting a couple of wide book cases. Putting one in front of the other to make deeper shelves and that way I can have like 4 40 gallon tanks or more for each snake. An adult doesn't need 40 or more gallons but I like giving them a lot of room and lots of choices of where they wish to hide or climb. So don't be afraid of a rack. They can be just like a regular tank. Just stacked on top or beside each other in one unit instead of separate.

Ps.
Not sure why your room mate doesn't want you to have a rack. Do they not like snakes? If that is the case you can put a blanket or curtain over the front of the rack (self or whatever you make it out of). Plus with something covering them they will come out more often because corns are more a nocturnal animal and enjoy little to no light.
