"For the Record"
My point is that some people wrote or called last night and today to say that they inferred from Walter’s statement [Back in the 90's I started the Pied-Sided Bloodred project that is responsible for the (SMR) Pied-Sided Bloodreds that are out there now and it actually started with a Pied-Sided Bloodred male that I aquired from Brad McDonald.] that my p/s line would not exist if not for him breeding my p/s female to the McDonald male. As you can see, if I had kept back babies from any of her previous seven years of production, I’d have discovered the “mutation?” without the McDonald male. In fact, the greatest tragedy in all this is the confusion caused by the non-allelic “similarity” between the original animals. Hence, his comment that the McDonald partner of the original pairing being “responsible” for the (SMR) Pied-Sided Bloodreds is totally false.
What Don has stated here is correct and I would like to clear this up. The SMR line of P/S came from his female. If you were to read this in Don's entire post, you will see that the original McD male was not "responsible" for it.
I quote "responsible" because the use of that word, on my part, was a poor choice of word to use here. I guess I should have used "due to". What I meant by the word "responsible" was because this male was used to start the project,
helped in the findings of the SMR P/S trait. Now, what I mean by that is, because this original breeding was done with the McD male, it allowed for the SMR P/S to be
found, not that it was "responsible"
for it.
As Don's mentions, if he were to have used any one of his females sons bred back to her, he would have discovered the trait himself, and it would have been "due to"
that male breeding her.
If anyone took my writing that the McD male was the one that
created the SMR line of P/S, by the way it was written, I apologize for my mistake and the misleading way I worded that.
I did not intentionally mean for it to sound that way, nor was it my intention for it to be perceived that way.
I would like to apologize to Don for this mistake and poor choice of words I used in my post. Also, to apologize to Rob & Louise because of them being the second people to have marketed the SMR line as an extension of Don's findings.
Again, I did not intentionally try to take anything away from the SMR line or try to intentionally make it seem the McD line was the creator of the SMR line..........Sorry for my mistake.
Walter,
