Rat Poison, Part Deux: The Final Insult

The Rule Of Thirds.
Hey All -

As some of you old-timers to the forums know, I spent a night in the hospital in November of '06 when I threw a ginormous blood clot from my leg ("DVT") to my lung ("PE"). I was on a blood thinner - Coumadin (Warfarin), specifically - up until this past January. That's when, in his wisdom, my doctor rolled me off of the prescription.

Well, it appears that I have a bone to pick with him.

After once again becoming symptomatic over the past three to five days, even while using the "low dose" aspirin since January to kinda-sorta reduce the clotting factors, I'm back in the hospital.

But instead of throwing one big-ass clot, I have a buncha smaller ones.

I'm typing this from my ER room, as they're still trying to find a room on the wards for me.

Be prepared for more photos of my bruised up belly as I inject myself with Lovenox. Details to follow, film at eleven.

regards,
jazz

I'm one of those "old timers", although at the time I was too shy, can't think of a better word, to actually type much on the forum, but I remember the last time.

How are you, it seems like the sense of humour is intact at the moment :) I hope they don't keep you waiting for a bed for too long.

Please keep us posted and I'm sending as many good wishes as I can your way for a speedy and full recovery.

Best wishes,
Sue

get better soon, your lol cat is in the mail (to make you feel better, of course!).

Blood clots, eww. Natures jello.

Oh! geez that is awful. I've done the Luvinox a couple times and it really does bruise ones belly. Sorry to hear you'll be back on it, susan

Doesn't D-Con come in a water soluble formula you can mix and drink each day? :duck: That would be better than injections, but my mom had injections for more than a year and it wasn't too bad. I hope your doctor realises that you need coumadin, or some other real medicine. Get better soon!

Thanks, everyone.

When I first posted, I was just finished with the CT scan of my lungs. I'm now up on the wards, and have just completed an echocardiogram.

Echocardiogram? Isn't that a heart procedure? Ah-yup.

The CT scan showed that I had developed an enlarged ventricular area; that's the "right" side of one's heart. They weren't sure if the PEs (pulmonary embolisms, aka blood clots in the lungs) were the cause of this, or if I had a separate coronary issue. But my god, for a computer geek, watching an echocardiogram on yourself is like "Bio-Photoshop CS3".

And the bonus is that it appears that I don't have a separate heart issue....so I got dat goin' for me. Which is nice.

Next up, back on telemetry and injection #2 of the Lovenox.

Keep those cards and letters coming in. :)

Dale

Dang Dale, sorry to hear you are having to deal with another round of problems. I well remember the last time. Hope you have a speedy recovery!

Dale,
When I first saw this, I thought, oh my god, his ex tried to poison him. :sidestep:

But all joking aside, I hope all is well and you got someone taking care of the kids (ahem..corns) while you are laid up.

As much as I enjoyed your 'track marks' pics last time, I'd never wish this trouble to return. So have they decided the ventricular enlargement is directly due to the clots?
Hope you're on the mend asap x

Hey man, I dont think I was around last time you posted the last hospital visit, but I do wish you luck in getting rid, or atleast reducing the size of, these clots!!!
Good luck with everything, and I hope recovery is fast and as painless as possible!!

well that just sucks :(

Sorry to hear that your doctor's an idiot but glad it got caught in time. Hope you'll be on the mend soon.

Back to the DeCon huh.. Thats not great news, but it sounds like you caught it in time, sort of.. Speedy recovery Ole Feller..

Regards.. Tim of T and J
