Red-backed Ratsnake (Oocatochus rufodorsata)

So it's been about a week. I imagine he'll do OK if he gets a meal this weekend or early next week. Is he acting OK otherwise?

He is acting spazzy. I think he is stressed. I hope he will take some live fish this weekend

Today I had to do an unfortunate but necessary task in ensuring his survival. I assist fed him 3 small fish. He took them well; I am going to soak him tonight so I know he is getting fluids.

So I have talked with an asian rat guru on another forum on the phone. He gave me some tips for this snake. Like I said I had assist fed him some fish and he seems to have perked up. He does have blister disease. I am waiting for him to shed out to know the full extent of the blister disease. I am hoping to train him onto fish. What my friend Matt had said was teh hair on the fuzzies was not made to be digested by this species. Causeing the immune system to freak a little bit allowing the snake to become ill. He said if there is someone who can keep this guy alive it is me!

So I just walked into the rom he is in and he was shedding. He looks really good now. All the blisters went away. He got new paper towl and everything. He even tryed to bite me! He is on his way to recovery!

whoo hoo!!! three cheers for bitey McJerk snake:bird:. I'm glad he's doing better for you. What a project he's becoming though, hey? Keep on keepin on, David. You're doing great.

So right now the male is doing very very well. Eating pinkies like crazy. So Mike from Outback is selling me a female and he also has a possible hypererythristic female that has a bad mouth infection and looks like she may not pull through. He is treating it and if she pulls through I am going to buy her. Expect some CB babies next year!!!!!

Here's the female I picked up Saturday!

So right now it looks like we will have some CB babies next year. The female is big enough and I am hoping after a brief cooling period they will both be ready to go. The main thing is getting them up to standards so the cooling and pregnancy doesn't kill the female.

So I have some very good news on my end. The female rufo looks preggo! She is not eatign for me and I am thinking she may be preggo. She is getting bigger and such! I really am hoping for some babies!

So the female looks to be about to have babies, but the male passed away last night. I will be picking up another pair in August....from Outback Reptiles of course!
