Retirement........

Rich, it was like I told Connie, if you don't want 'em, I'll take a styro full off your hands! :roflmao:

We can go halfsies on it! ;)

Seriously, Rich, i'm glad you guys are feeling a little less stressed. I hope it goes smoothly for you from here on out. :)

Im sure your adults are already sold, you just dont know it yet. I for one am chomping at the bit! Going to be a crap storm of emails for you to sort through.

Congrats on your retirement, and congrats on selling that table full of babies, it was great meeting you and Connie and great meeting your friend Mike. I enjoyed conversating with all 3 of you and hope you still hang around in the reptile world regardless of your retirement. Some of us youngins still got a lot to learn from the older folks in the business and take all the advice we can compute. Hope to see you again, and might even pick up some adults from your stock once you list them. Pending if I can afford such that is :)

Glad to hear it was a success for you. (And successes, large and small, for many of the rest of us.) Rich, you look like a college professor. It was really nice to see pics of you and Mrs. Zuchowski.

*kicks self for poor planning indicated by day job as teacher, prohibiting trip to Daytona in August *

Congrats on the pre-retirement extra night in the hotel. I'm glad things are moving along well for you and Connie. I wish I could've taken more young 'uns off your hands than I did. Like many others, I'm hoping I can get in on some adults as well. Take a deep breath or three before you post that list, though. That way you'll be more rested -and I'll have time to save more money. :)

Yeah, I understand there are more threads on this site about the Corn Snake group Saturday night, but heck, I haven't had much free time lately. Some people were astonished that I didn't even know about the award they presented to me there. What a shocker THAT was!

Still going to be busy around here doing another inventory on the adults and getting those all moved out, but there is definitely a light at the end of the tunnel now. Hopefully selling off the adults will pad the retirement fund some more. It was quite disappointing that the entire business didn't sell. But honestly, that wasn't in my original plans anyway, so it doesn't matter too much. Would have been nice though, to see someone else take over all these projects I've been doing. Now they will just get dispersed and certainly some things lost in the process. Guess I just can't be worried about it at this point, though.

Took my vette out for a ride today. Been quite a while with the busy season around here and being away for Expo. Not to mention that we had been getting rain every day for quite a spell, and that really messes up the dirt road we live on. Plus I am spending some of my "gun money" to get a garage built before the rodents around here completely destroy all our vehicles. Been trying to get rid of them, but the woods must just be full of rats and mice. Wouldn't be bad if they didn't have this nasty habit of chewing up electrical wiring. Hate to spend the money on a garage, but there really isn't any other choice in the matter. Wanted to spend the money I made on selling off my gun collection on more FUN stuff, but oh well... This is kind of like being a kid a Christmas time and getting new underwear for a Christmas present. Yuch! Yeah, I know I need them, but sheesh..... Toys were a WHOLE LOT more fun to get....

Well, you gotta make lemonade outta those lemons. Put one pair of those underwhere on your head...and wear the others on the outside of your pants...insta-superhero.

Note: I wouldn't suggest wearing a garage atop your head.

Gratz on your retirement Rich ! Lord knows, I'd love to know how that feels someday <G>. With a 3 year old tho, I doubt I'm ever going to see the day, heh.

Selling off the gun collection too ?? Don't lose all those hobbies now ! Granted, corns probably haven't been much of a "hobby" for you in years.

Hats off to you, from one of the throng out on the fringes these days....

I sold off MOST of the gun collection. I had a bunch of collectible stuff that got too valuable to shoot, and with my schedule being like it was, I was afraid I would just neglect the stuff and they would lose their value when they rusted up on me. I've got PLENTY of guns to play with after retirement. I'm actually looking REAL forward to dragging out my .50 caliber rifles and shooting them again. Fortunately I bought up a bunch of ammo when it was available and reasonably priced.

And yes, the squirrels are definitely going to be in jeopardy of local extinction this upcoming bamboo sprouting season. That was normally during the busy breeding and egg laying season, so I couldn't be spending time just sitting down by the bamboo groves to wait for those bamboo suckers to show up. This year I'm going to put up a hunting blind and sit out there with one of my .220 Swift rifles. I used to really like having the squirrels scampering around here until they got it into their heads to try to destroy my BIGGEST bamboo grove. Unfortunately you just can't keep a squirrel out of something they are intent on getting into, so the only choice available is to kill them. They just crossed a line that they really shouldn't have crossed.

I have dealt with a similar squirrel problem the same way. My beef was with the red squirrels though. Those suckers used to get into my ceiling and you would hear them chewing on the wood, all night long. I would get up, grab the broom and start banging. I soon realized that, that wasn't a good idea, when I poked a hole in the ceiling and the little bastard poked his head out of it.

We quickly took care of the problem with the .22 mag and the .17 Hornady Mag. I really like the magnum rounds, because they instantly turn them into hamburg.

An odd thought came into my head though. Imagine what the .50 cal would do to them? LOL!

Good luck with the plinking!

.50 body shot would leave the head and tail with a nice spray of blood and goo that used to be the body!

Rich, is the bamboo just ornimental or is the a purpose for it?

I can’t ever get a shot at my squirrels so I have set out have-a-heart traps for them. Last night I caught a d..n skunk in my back yard. What am I going to do with that?

I just REALLY like bamboo. One of these days I need to take some video of the groves. I've got several different types. I haven't even seen most of it since busy season started, so I have no idea where the new shoots have come up or how much got torn up by the squirrels.

I've tried the live traps, but once you catch one squirrel, the others know not to go in it. I bought a multi live trap, but it's useless.

Of course, once I catch them in the live trap, I have to de-live them with a .22 short. I've caught a bunch of rats that have been getting into the vehicles that way as well. And not long ago I had to pull the A/C heater blower motor out of my vette because a mouse had died (apparently from the poison we put underneath the hoods) and fell into the blower motor fan box. What a mess that was when I pulled it apart.

Also had rodents chew up the wiring in my standby generator a year or so ago. Those little bastids have cost me thousands of dollars in repairs over the last several years. You would think with all the snakes I have here that rodents wouldn't come with 5 miles of the place.
