Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords (Dem.) was shot at point blank range this morning, many others also shot.

Gabrielle Giffords was one of the "targets" on Sarah Palin's "Take Back the 20" campaign. As of this morning, those posters were still up on www.takebackthe20.com. I went to the site and saw them there myself. Since, the site has been scrubbed. The webpage has changed twice this morning so far as I've seen.

But here's the poster, in case you've forgotten it.

This is not the first time Giffords has been threatened, and her office was vandalized after she voted "yes" on the healthcare bill.
 
wow, I dont know much about her but its always sad when some one goes to far and trys to kill some one. I dont care how much you dont like them there is no reasen for this. This is going to turn into a massive mess, there will be even more fighting because some kid didnt use his brain. I disagree with most demecrats but I could never understand why some one would go as far as this.

You do realize that Sarah Palin had NOTHING to do with this and that her campaign in NO WAY advocated violence? So why would you even bring that up in connection with Sarah if it had nothing to do with her besides her campaign targeting them as weak democrats in 2012?

I'm very sorry for her family but Sarah Palin and the Repubs had nothing to do with this and in no way wanted something like this to happen. It could have been some crazy loon OR it could have been a Mexican National, etc. After all, Mexico is currently in a state of war with all the drug violence and Americans have gotten killed in Arizona by it. No one knows yet so please refrain from making biased conclusions and wait for the facts to come out.
 
In fact, I can almost guarantee, after reading the report, that the suspect is a minority. This is because NPR, like CNN, ABC, heck even Fox News, ALL report "a white male, white repub etc etc" if that was the culprit. If the source DOES NOT report on the nationality/beliefs of the suspect, it is almost always a minority. Very sad that they do this, but its true.

+1 There is problubly only one person involved and that was the kid who took the shot. Now days every one likes to point the finger without knowing all the facts.
 
Its problubly not, He is problubly a crazy extremist who didnt agree with her stands and took it off the deep end. I was more agreing with his point of it being a single crazy person and not a whole group such as Palins. And now because of this a bunch of people are going to be pointing fingers at all republicans and trying to make any one who is republican or agrees with them to be twisted extremists who are hell bent on murder.

I'm part of Freerepublic.com and have been for 4 years now and its a trend that we've noticed in the news. But anywho, thank you for confirming who the suspect is. I will now eat my words!

And I agree with Allalaskan. Its prob a crazy nutcase who thought violence is the right answer.
 
22 year old, if reports are to be believed. Ethnic status TBC, so don't eat those words yet. Some rumours have him serving in the US military in Afghanistan, but that's yet TBC as well. Second person also arrested and police looking for a third.

Nutjob, vet with PTS, brainwashed/radicalised somehow (and that's scarily easy)... Still a number of scenarios that could apply regardless of ethinc background.
 
Not saying this gives him an excuse but there are allot of Vets that are coming back who are mentally scarred. Some I think have mental issues due to what they have gone through, some worse then others. I know allot of vets get pretty mad when they come home and hear some of the stuff that is trying to be put into affect (Like the New healthcare program) and have the mindset of "We risked my life for you and this is how you thank us?". Many dont take it far and go about it the right way voting and protesting, how ever I could see some possibly "snapping" and taking it to far.

Again I am by NO WAY condoning these actions! I am just stating IF it was a VET I could see how some may snap and go over the edge. My brother in law is a Iraq Vet and he has told me some of the stuff he saw and told me that it has had an affect on him. Would he ever do something like this? NO, but he told me he seen guys completely snap in the field. He said it was pretty scary to see guys hew knew for year suddenly snap.
 
I'll wait for something a bit more reputable than the Huffington Post. I dont trust Ariana Huffington farther than I can throw her haha

Nowhere did I suggest that Sarah Palin actually wanted this to happen. I didn't even make that implication, because that's not what I really think. But I'll make my implication explicit--I bring it up because Sarah Palin knowingly used dangerous and ill-conceived rhetoric that has now been turned into reality by "some crazy loon." There may indeed be some connection between that type of rhetoric and what happened today. There may prove not to be. Regardless, it's an interesting coincidence that bears consideration. Additionally, if no one thought there was any possible connection between Sarah Palin's rhetoric and what actually happened today, then the Sarah Palin websites and facebook pages would not be being scrubbed clean of all such rhetoric. But they are. Very actively. Including public discussions on her FB page. Those pages are suddenly cleeeeean as a whistle.

I reported an interesting constellation of facts. You, incidentally, are the one who jumped to making completely unfounded claims in this thread.

The Tucson news, www.kold.com, showed a picture. He was a young white male, clean shaven, short hair. Kind of skinny.
 
This is just horrific. "The dead included U.S. District Judge John Roll and a 9-year-old girl". Whoever it was that opened fire, they were certainly a sick human being. There's nothing political about death, and hopefully this will open the eyes of A LOT of people who would wish harm on people with different political views, religious views, or other. The families left to deal with this should be the ONLY focus!

As much as I wish this did open eyes, I doubt it will. This kind of stuff has been happening for years and there are still allot of people who dont or wont look at the big picture. They get to obsessed over there little world and dont look at who it will really hurt.

Hateful rhetoric and extremist views can easily persuade people inclined towards extreme reactions. On BOTH sides of the blue and red, for that matter.

Sarah Palin is a crazy SOB who is, in many people's opinions, among the most "extreme" of the Republican side today. Her intervention alone made my last vote a no-contest vote.

What was that you said about "not jumping to conclusions?"

I am very, very sorry this happened to this lady, the judge, and all the other bystanders who were killed. No one deserves to die for a vote in a free nation or for attending a political event in their community.

I hope Arizona has the death penalty and that it will be judiciously used in this case.
 
Yeah, to place a bullseye on Osama is one thing, to put it on your fellow Americans, well that irresponsible at best.
