stupid breeders why cant you just leave things be

Different cultures call what I am describing by different names. Hanbleceya, crying for a dream, vision quest, etc. It is a form of inquiry to many cultures, prayer, mindfulness, etc. I have one of those personalities where I will try almost anything once. So, I found a Lakota yuwipi medicine man and had him put me up for a traditional vision quest long before I ever joined the military. To make a very long story short, I've studied a great many different religions and I once had a deep desire to see what truth I could find in them all. But I'll leave that discussion for a different thread because this thread is not for that. Its for discussing hybrids and why hybridizers make hybrids. We do it for many reasons. Some do it for money, some do it for a love of creating something unique, some do it from a certain artistic type bent,... the list goes on. But hybridizing is nothing new we as Homo sapiens have been hybridizing, line breeding, out crossing, etc. for many many years. We have intentionally been altering the natural progression of things and creating alternate paths of evolution for wild versus domesticated. This is why domesticated horses have a different number of chromosomes to that of wild horses.

Actually, if memory serves, the title of this thread is "Stupid breeders why can't you just leave things be". It was not meant as a discussion of hybrids as much as a denoucement of hybrids.

I think hybrids are GREAT....as frozen food! :dgrin:

Thought it was an EU breeders lament over the whole "Ultra" debacle and how he was getting out of corns because of it :shrugs:

Deal with it folks. This started years ago when the first morphs started hitting the scene. You're fooling yourself it you don't look at everything "morph" in corn snakes with a skeptical eye. It is what it is; and it's not just corns. Do we put Kathy Love in he spotlight and refuse to ever deal with her because she (admittedly) crossed amelanism in Emoryi lines, and used Emoryi's in some of her Candycanes? Do we refused to come to any of Rich Z's sites because he (admittedly) dumped corns up and down the East Coast? I'm just picking on them because they had the b@lls to own up to it. We don't because we respect what they (and others) have brought to the community and we are able to look past such things as they are human, like the rest of us. Doug wants us to believe it's the actions of keepers now in the hobby, but "being human" in regards to keeping reptiles started the minute Dr Bechtel started working with the first amel corn snake.

NOTHING we do in keeping snakes in captivity replicates nature, and I just don't get the "purity" hand wringing that goes on. Do your homework. Find breeders who tout their "pure" corns (or pure whatever) and buy from them. Quit starting "pet store" projects and getting feelings hurt when they don't pan out. This whole d@mn thread is just ridiculous, but I did learn things about several folks that kinda opened my eyes, good and bad.

I can't rep you anymore Chris!

I have some pet store projects that I am rather proud of which are going to be started with some of Chris's TS ghosts. Can you imagine how very pretty Piglet and a TS Ghost babies are gonna be?

Very well said Chris and I couldn't agree more with your 99.999% of your post. I leave it at that as there is some fine tweaking I would do. Yes, I agree with your sentiment that the topic of the thread was a passionate expression of grief or sorrow over being duped, but it was also a question as well as a bashing of hybridizers/breeders. You simply can't ask, "stupid breeders" (denigrating breeders/hybridizers)... "why can't you just leave things be?" and not expect a retort from those people you are calling stupid.
Yes, it was a loaded question and it was denigrating at the same time.
Thanks for posting Chris and thanks for having the intestinal fortitude to tell the truth like it is.
:noevil: I like hybrids... Did I mention that?

Had to know that some people have the inability to just let something go. Passive-aggressive much?

Hybrids are wonderful, they make great frozen treats for cobras!

If only you would leave these 2 out...

Then what would happen if I left those 2 out?

Others may post their 2 cents on the issue, but I may not?

Yes, I can even agree with the above person in part as it was denouncing hybrids, but more specifically, those that make the hybrids. There are some that like hybrids and some that do not. I am one of those that like hybrids.

I feel that if others can post their opinions such as the above then so shouldn't I be allowed to post my opinion or interpretation of such a post.
