Hey everyone this is my first post on this website and my first corn snake.

Sorry its right after he has fed but i'm excited to learn what kind of corn snake i have haha. Yes i know enough about handling them after they fed, i was More then very car full when getting him out of his tank.

Cute little snake you have there :) They're amazing creatures aren't they lol

Is there a reason why you feed live, wish I'd not watched the video so early in the morning lololol

I just felt that feeding live is better for the snake as in its in the dna to hunt and kill there pray, makes them more of a snake in my eyes i guess. personal preference.

And thank your for the complements on Nako. he is a great little guy. Well still have to find out what sex he she is haha

Maybe I am just a bit squeamish is all, plus I am in the UK (well a teeny tiny offshore island lol) so wouldn't be able to get a hold of live mice anyway :)

I feed mine with tongs and heat the mouse, so I am pretty sure they think their food is "alive"

While it is personal preference, it's widely frowned upon. No they do not need to eat live prey to feel more like a snake, no it does not make them happier. Food is food in their eyes.

That's like saying it's in my DNA to hunt mammoths with spears and a posse of cavemen. I don't see any mammoths, the cavemen won't return my calls and I'm fresh outta spears, BUT I'M OKAY! No need to hunt to feel like a person.

It's not a big deal when the food is pinkies, or fuzzies, but when you start feeding things that have teeth, that becomes an issue. Would you want your beloved pet chewed up by a rodent? Is it worth the risk? I'm speaking out of long term interest in your snake's well being. It will live a long and happy life on frozen thawed prey.

I don't really want to nitpick, but in the third picture, is that a mite on your snake? On it's left side. Also, in all of the pictures, it looks like there's swelling around the eyes indicative of a potential mite infection. Has your snake been excessively soaking lately?

He does say that his snakes spends a lot of time in and around its waterbowl, there is a ling to a youtube video too.

Hmmm. :( I'm in class, so I can't really watch the video right now.

If there's things that look like flakes of pepper in the water, it's time to start looking into a mite treatment. They are a pain in the ass to get rid of, but it's better to catch it early than further on down the road.

Screenshot

Here's a screenshot but it's kinda hard to tell if it's mites or bits of substrate as they use reptibark or something like that.

It's very hard to tell with the coco-husk bedding though. The snake showing some of the signs, and soaking a lot is not normal.

It would need to be kept on paper towels for a few days to know for sure.

This is why we don't like feeding live.

One missed strike when your snake is on adult mice, and you could have a severely injured or even dead snake.

Would you also feed live rabbits to a pet dog? It's in their genes to hunt prey. How about throwing live mice and birds to an indoor-only pet cat? Do they toss live zebra to the lions in zoos?

Your snake is trapped in a box with the mouse. It didn't hunt it. It can't sneak up on it. The mouse is cornered, knows it, and may even attack first. Ceduke got to see a rat rip off the top of a ball python's skull. A mouse could do that to our corns.
