viktors meal tried to get away. haha

Nanci & ArpeggioAngel have said nothing that I think was rude to the OP.. I'm not talking about people who have disagreed, just the people who don't seem to express themselves very kindly.

I'd also like to add that I'm not sure what YOU have posted.. but I'm not referring to everybody on this thread.

What a mess it has become. Instead of going on and on why not just link the person to dangers of dangers of feeding live sticky and be done with it. Since people will do what they do anyway. Sounds easier to me

Thank you for summing it up. I have posted more than I would have liked to, I don't post much. This will be my last for today. Essentially, all you can do is let them know the risks, the rest is up to them. No point in offending anybody.

..

ok. so to make EVERYONE happy. i will attempt f/t again. or PK. whichever one they will go for. it will probably be PK,
we will see how it goes.
i will let everyone know.
so then that way no one thinks that i am an irresponsible snake owner, or putting my snakes in harms way. which i dont.
i care for them very well.
they are talken very good care of.
they are each held everyday. they have fresh water, and they get fed every week. same time.
i do not let the mice chew on them. i make sure that they are ok when they are eating because i am concerned about the mice biting them as well.
i will not let my snakes get harmed from a mouse.
now. if everyone would please stop bashing on eachother on the thread i would really appreciate it.
i will let you know the updates next friday as that is my feeding day for my snakes.

It is commendable you are willing to give it another go, but you might have better success if you don't try to do it after only a week. If your corn is on adults, it shouldn't be fed every week anyways, but rather every 10-21 days (depending on several things). If you were offering food every week, that could be why you didn't have success switching. Letting him get a little hungry will improve your chances of switching him.

ok. i will try that. one of mine only gets food every two weeks because i saved her from someone who wasnt taking care of her and giving her 2 large rats every two weeks. now she has fat deposits over her body towards her tail.
thanks for the advice

I agree - let 'em get good and hungry and then try again. Since they are used to live I would maybe start with a fresh killed mouse instead of frozen/thawed to see if that will work for the first try. If necessary, put them in a separate feeding container and leave them over night with it.

I understand you want to do what is best for your snakes and you feel that you are watching closely while feeding live. Problem is, if a mouse does decide to bite, it is going to happen faster than you can react unfortunately and obviously you don't want that to happen.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

I have a roughly six year old Amel I "rescued" last year. This snake was dropped off at my front door by a kid. He was fed live his entire life and had the battle wounds and scars to prove it. Now imagine, this snake spent over five years of it's life being fed live feeders. He had never seen a F/T or F/K mouse. The first feeding, I tried a F/T feeder and he took it.

That means every snake in my collection feeds on F/T. I have close to 50 snakes. If you have a small collection and the majority of them aren't feeding on F/T, then you aren't trying hard enough.

Tips to try to get them switched over

1. Let em get good and hungry, before attempting to feed (previously suggested)
2. The Zombie Dance (Move the feeder around and try to entice feeding
3. Getting the feeder nice and warm, before attempting. Around 100F is good
4. Scenting with other things like tuna, dirty rodent litter or chicken
5. Screaming wildly, flailing your arms around and threatening to evict the little bastard unless he eats it. <~~ (This is a joke, in case you missed it)
6. Leaving the snake and F/T rodent alone, in the dark or overnight with the feeder.
7. Try feeding at different times of the day, late nights or early mornings.

Good luck and if you need any more pointers, don't hesitate to ask.

Dingdingding! This is the telling point for me.

If the OP had 50 snakes and one wouldn't take pk, I might buy it. But he/she actually has only **8** snakes, ALL of them corns, and he/she claims that **7** of them refuse pk?? Sorry folks, but I ain't nearly that gullible.....

Personally I don't feel you should give up on getting a corn on ft or fk until after at least a year. Its an important switch that could keep a gorgeous snake from being torn up. If after one year of trying its still not eating these kinds sure I might give up and cry each time I had to put a LIVING thing in the cage and after 6 months of having to feed live I would find a new home for that snake. I can't do live. I just can't and I HATE people who think feeding live is FUNNY! Don't get offended but I think anyone who feeds live and thinks its "cool" or funny should be fed to giant crocodiles. How cool is it now??

I'm sorry that is just how I am and I will be ignoring this thread from now on.

Fixed. :devil01:

ok. so i tell everyone that i am going to try it out again. and once again i get people saying that i am
1. lying about my snakes eating live and not frozen.
2. and that i am not trying hard enough.

i think that if you read over the last 7 pages. i have had enough people tell me that i am doing wrong by feeding live.

i dont need another 7 pages telling me the same things after i said i would give f/t or pk anohter shot.

thanks.

I wasn't responding to you personally, just in general. There are a lot of comments in this thread. I'm also not interesting in creating 7 more pages of this. I've been down that road before and it's not fun. I was merely referencing my situation. You can either take it or leave it. That's up to you. :shrugs:

Good Luck and if you need any more pointers, please let us know!
